Silent Hill 1 was about the manifestations of Alessa, and since she corrupted the town (which already had a dark spiritual history), she had some control over the Darkness through one of the old gods and was able to bring Harry, Dahlia, Dr. K, and Lisa into the Fog World/Otherworld/Nightmare Worlds. Her corruptions become very apparent in the look and feel of the town and the monsters within. This continues through at least the first few games. Silent Hill 2 shows only James' manifestations, since he is the player character, but Eddie and Angela have their own interpretations which we only see hints of. Silent Hill 3 goes back to it's roots, hence we see Heather and Claudia's interpretations (Also Claudia has some power in the shifting of the world's). Silent Hill 4 is Walter's manifestations, because he is in control. Henry is just a pawn brought in. Origins: Travis and Alessa, Homecoming: Alex, Downpour: Murphy but more so the female officer. The movie doesn't exist in the same canon as the games (at all), and Homecoming and Downpour have some...canon issues. I'm a little fuzzy on my Silent Hill lore, I used to be a hard core fan back in the day (Konami ruined that with it's abolishment of Silent Hill. PT was great!). For questions, I would suggest visiting the Silent Hill Wiki. Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."
