Economy 53,287
https://www.ctvnews.ca/vancouver/article/bc-conservatives-win-majority-eby-resigns-as-ndp-leader-recap/ For the first time in nearly a century (90 years) the Province of BC (arguably Canadas most left leaning Province) has elected a Conservative party, on top of that they won by majority Nearly all of Canadas Provinces now have Conservative Governments

Yeah overall globally sure if thats the contexy. But im also not gonna defend a party just because they arent conservative BC has always elected either Liberal or NDP and they are Canadas most expensive Province to live in (excluding the sparse Northern Territories), they have a terrible fiscal deficit right now and poor business investment, and the worst housing crisis in the Country I wouldnt exactly call it a job well done by the Left there. And since no conservative has been in power for nearly a century, you cant blame it on Conservatives ruining it and feeling after effects of it. Ive just come to the personal conclusion that both sides of the political spectrum suck just in different ways. They get stuck on political ideology rather than common sense because voters and polarization push things that way (I say that from a Canadian perspective because when it comes to bigotry, Canadian Conservative parties are no where near as severe as American ones, I might not make this comment necessairily if i was talking about the US specifically) Edited 56 minutes ago by Economy

Curious on your take of virtually the entire Country going Conservative Shows the Liberal bounce back is a Carney bounce back not a party bounce back. Which, isn't surprising tbf From afar, the conservatives have a much better state based ground game vs the Liberals. At least here it is. Aparently its also a long term pattern that Provincial Governments tend to be the reverse of the Federal Government especially when they have been in power for some time Some Provinces always tend to go one direction like BC either Liberal or NDP and Alberta/Saskatchewean almost always Conservative. But Nationally overall it tends to be the pattern

Carney is also more Conservative than most past Liberal Leaders so theres that to consider too. Hes definitely way most Centre-Right than Trudeau who was Centre-Left Basically Trudeau was as far left as the Liberal spectrum would allow without being an NDP. Carney on the other hand id say is about as Centre-Right as the Liberal spectrum allows without being a Conservative I say that on economy of course. On social issues like gender equality, LGBT, immigration etc Carney has not said anything bigoted you would normally associate with the Right Wing That said he doesnt try as hard to be Woke as Trudeau so i guess even socially hes not as left as Trudeau. Tbh he barely comments on that social stuff at all unless asked. He seems to only care about his economic agenda

Economy 53,287
Just now, Bronco said: Honestly, so long as social policy doesn't decline. Sometimes the best way to improve social policy is a successful economic agenda. Tbh in Canada we already got pretty strong anti discrimination laws, rights across the board etc... sure some tweaks can always be made for improvement but in general its pretty good I think the best way to preserve it and improve society is dont fix what aint broke and focus on improving peoples economic lives and stay away from social polarization I gotta say its very refreshing that our politics right now has almost entirely moved away from that stuff and debates are mainly economic and the PM is wasting time with those social war distractions At least on women, LGBT, pro life etc. On immigration there is some debate probably because we took in so many and have a housing crisis. But even on that subject its mostly a technical debate on what the right immigration number is for our services and housing to handle, not the full blown bigoted stuff US Conservatives spew So yeah, ppl can have different opinions on Carneys policies, but i think everyone should at least give him credit that he has completely avoided unhelpful and distracting social bickering polarizing debates that tend to be so common in politics and is focused on stuff of actual impact on peoples lives
