Buck If you feel that slave labor is a worthy American value, then feel free to continue advocating for it, but personally, I have never felt more ashamed to be American then I have when I read about the reality of our penal labor system. I am not american and I don't know about american penal labor system. I do not think that a convicted felon should receive food, residence, heating, water and access to all other commodities that homeless unemployed yet law abiding citizens could not have. I certainly do not agree with you about the ethical treatment of criminals, but if you do a little research about the American prison-industrial complex I have no doubt you would recoil with horror. Different production plants can be built next to prisons, prisons could work in jobs that do not exceed their cognitive or physical abilities with work hours as any other american citizen working full-time. This has lots of benefits: - Convicted felons add value into economy. - Assuming they will be paid minimum wage, part of their salary would be used for expenditures of prison, and rest would be put into a bank account or sent to their children if they have any children who is still in school. - Expenditures of the prison which they stay in for their fellony would not be paid by law abiding tax payers.
