The stores are now required to donate unwanted food to charities and food banks. To stop foragers, some supermarkets have poured bleach over the discarded food or storing binned food in locked warehouses. This law was voted unanimously by the French senate on Wednesday after a petition was launched by Courbevoie councillor Arash Derambarsh. It will apply to any supermarket with a footprint of 400 square metres or larger. If companies flout the law they coud incur fines up to 75,000 Euros (£53,000) or two years in prison. The local Publix here donates every bit of recently out of date food to shelters and churches. Except for stuff like milk, meat, and fruits/veggies which wouldn't last at all. Because in the world we live in 40% of food produced is thrown away, yes 40%. I do dumpster diving, i don't take dairies and meat but for example orange, you have a bag of orange, one is smashed, they will throw everything bec they can't be bothered to re bag the clean ones. A fruit does not look pretty or "fresh" enough, or allergies have been forgotten on the packages so they could get sued: bye bye chocolate bar. You have a documentary made by a guy who did the experiment , he lived one year without doing grocery shopping, imagine! Of course meat and such should not be given away, but imagine all the canned food, processed stuff because the package is just damage? it's ridiculous! Im guessing most Developed Nations like France are in simmilar boat what they gonna do with all that food???
