PopThatArt 2,193
Just wondering if you think that Lady Gaga can find success in music with just strong songs and no artistic imagery? If Gaga doesn't bring the kind of imagery she's known for, do you think less people will pay attention? Or would being basic like Adele or Sam Smith and other singers improve Gaga's "sellability"? Would you be bored without the imagery she's known for? Go see A Star is Born
ViviLittleM 3
The imagery she had isn't here since 2014 I think. I'm here for her voice anyway.
Bambino 24,288
She did C2C without artistic imagery, and she won a Grammy. It all depends on what music she presents for the GP.
REALITY 76,588
I'm sure she could find success in doing music without the big, avant-garde type of artistic imagery. I mean, just about every other artist is doing that, I don't see why she can't—though you could argue that her whole career is based off of her artistic imagery, so if she loses that, she would then lose "Lady Gaga". HEARTHUNTER 7,611
She can do it but Gaga isn't Gaga without the imagery.

eifulien 2,956
Well, she definitely can. She may have attracted significantly more attention and exploded onto the scene excatly because of this artistic image, but she has all she needs to do it without it. I think she has said that (apart from her obsession with fashion and transformation) she uses that to deflect the media attention from her personal life. You know, she'd rather they talk about her "egg" or her meat dress than discuss whom she slept with and so on - just look at Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Beyoncé etc. Gaga has managed to keep her life private the most. But on the other hand she has also suffered from this artistic image - I think people were tired of it during BTW and absolutely dismissed her during ARTPOP, so this has hurt her. Anyway, even though she could succeed without it (actually at this point if she goes "normal" she has a higher chance of attracting the GP more than ever) I want her to keep evolving and using this side to her. It's what makes her Gaga, it's what set her apart from her peers, and it just works for those who care to try to understand her statement.
hELXIG 43,031
Definitely successful with the GP. But she could lose a lot of us... it would go against a lot of what she's stood for and firmly declared in the past. I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin. RAMROD 109,537
Not really, press and people will be too busy comparing her to Amy Winehouse. She was when she performed at Lollapalooza 2007, and that is why she bleached her hair before her major debut with The Fame. asfittingasmcqueen 2,007
I think the main issue is that for the last years she tried too many concepts for the same era, people can't even recognize her anymore. She needs to stick to just one idea and make it great so that she can attract the gp back. During The Fame she focused on creating this psychotic plastic girl image, then revealed her darker side for The Fame Monster and this evolved really well during Born this Way. ARTPOP started with this natural venus aesthetic but at the end it became a mess full of different imagery with no real coherence between any of them. With Cheek to Cheek she gained respect as a musician but lost her ''gaganess'' In my opinion she just needs to stick to something in particular. Not too crazy, but unique. (See how it worked for sia after the debute of chandelier. All she did was cover her face while other people wore her wig and it became memorable)

RadioIsOurs 13,876
That would mean that Gaga wouldn't even exist! We would just have Stefani Riccioli Spaghetti Germanotta....
PopThatArt 2,193
I think I should have worded the question differently, can Gaga draw people in, mainly the fans who have always been there, without the imagery? Or is it something we expect? Many Monsters lost interest in Gaga during Cheek to Cheek, but if Gaga released pop music with rather common videos and images, would the fans still be interested? I feel a lot of Monsters might not be interested if there isn't great visuals to accompany the music. I remember Monsters expressing disappointment with the videos of Gaga in studio for the singles from Cheek to Cheek. They wanted something more extravagant.
