monketsharona 80,309
People here are pissed Elton said this about ARTPOP but honestly I think he's the best to know how Gaga feels about it...
Battle 4 Ur Life 6,698
I mean, all the other things he's said were great but the ARTPOP shade came as a shock to me. So it's pretty obvious he made a duet with Gaga for the title track just because he's her friend and because she asked him to do it (and the exposure at a Muppets special is neat too, right Elton?), not because he cared about the song or appreciated it. and the worst part is that it turned out freaking awesome. but it's alright Elton, you are entitled to dislike ARTPOP just like 80% of the planet I guess. and just like those 80% I doubt he's made the effort to understand the album. he isn't known for being careful with words anyway. still think it was unnecessary and generalizing. a mess. the other stuff was great tho and I'm excited. “Fantastic, chic, freak, slay.”

Just because he doesnt like the whole album, doesnt mean he cant like a song from the album.. I cant remember but he or Gaga said that his favorite song from the album was ARTPOP before the album was released.

I haven't heard the interview itself, but from reading the 12 pages of this thread, it sounds like it was only the guy in the background. Elton chuckled at the mention?? I'm assuming Elton meant to reference You & I and Edge of Glory? ...both of which fit much closer to his 'Tapestry' comparison...
Mobster 14,604
EDIT: Mess, meant to quote @Whispering Yup, he did "I'm writing with Gaga tomorrow. She's doing a new record. I've heard two songs which are killer, they're just great songs, it's like back to the early stuff of hers - "You & I" and the Bruce Springsteen ballad "Bad Romance". She made some bad career decisions, ARTPOP was not a good idea, it was not a good album, I think she will admit that. In the midst of that, last year, which was 2015, she did three things which were kind of amazing. She did the whole tour and album with Tony Bennett, which did amazingly well. She sang the Julie Andrews tribute at the Oscars which everyone loved. And she was on American Horror Story. I think she's a great writer, to me she is Stefani Germanotta and I love her and care about her, she's the godmother of my two children. I want her to make a simple, fabulous, great song record. Maybe like Tapestry, but her version of Tapestry. I heard two of the songs. They're not complex arrangements, but they're great songs. It's all about the song." But I'm only a man and I do what I can.

So, Elton thinks "going back to the early stuff" means songs like You and I and Edge of Glory and the two songs he has heard sound like those two songs. Interesting. Chelseaaaaaa 1,453
It seems like he's referring to her roots not TF/TFM. 'You and I' is more Stefani than Gaga in most ways. I think we'll be in for a surprise. It'll sound very toned down compared to her previous pop albums (thus going down the road of her EP as Stefani, for example) but lyrically/vocally strong. With that said, do not expect another 'Bad Romance' or 'Poker Face'. If you've listened to 'Tapestry' then you know this will definitely be her least standard pop album yet from what he's saying. Not quite Adele-esque music, but the music won't be EDM nor will there be anything to instantly bop to like before, it will embody real instrumentals and singing her butt off. Expect something very new and fresh. It's a new era, for sure. The closest we've got to this type of sound from her is pre-Gaga. I really do think anyone thinking he means TF/TFM as a whole are misconstruing his comments and haven't done their homework on his references here. Lastly, you all should give 'Tapestry' a try if you haven't already because it's a CLASSIC record. Carole King is amazing.

Interesting. No, he said Bad Romance and called it "The Bruce Springsteen song" and by that I think he means the lyrical content of it, as songwriting skills bc he referred to Gagz as "a great writer" Edit: Not about the beat/electronic content of it, bc Bruce has said he wishes he wrote BR
