Let's Dance was not Bowie's first big hit though lol. It was his #1 song in 1983, he had had a #1 with "Fame" in 1975, as well as a few other Top 10s in the 70's. His album Let's Dance was his first platinum album though, so maybe that's what you read? I heard this on this mini video by a Norwegian reporter I totally forgot about that being from Just Dance, such a flop... That makes it too intriguing, so intriguing to me that it's very clear now that she did get very inspired once again. Reminds me of the MJ and MDNA references in Marry The Night at the end of the video.
