How the **** is pop punk not the best selling genre?

Seriously. Literally, 95% of my friends are in love with pop punk. My Chemical Romance, Sleeping With Sirens, etc etc. Totally obsessed with it. Like, I could throw a ****ing rock in an empty field and it would hit a pop punk fan. It's ridiculous.

How is this not one of the best selling genres? They are seriously everywhere. You can ask anyone and they'll name one of these bands as their favorites. I just don't understand how these music buyers are not making the sales exponentially higher than other artists? None of these bands are on the list of best selling music acts. So wtf?

Is it the merchandise that sells more? Are flat irons selling? Ear gauges hot on the market? Are stocks at Hot Topic through the roof? Razors? Tours? Because these acts certainly aren't on any best selling lists. I just don't get it.

It's funny too bc they seem to think they're a minority or something :toofunny:

Seriously. Every white girl 12-16 is in love with pop punk. They're all the same person too.

Serendipity

cause the artist can't market themselves well and the fanbase aren't loyal

The most loyal would be AC/Country/Urban

MCR is the best thing to happen to Punk music in the past decade. In response to your original question, they are a minority compared to mainstream music fans, but I would still expect higher sales than what there is.  I think illegal downloading is a big factor... Also a lot of the bands give away cd's at their concerts

Gaga happened and ruined every expectation on what was going to be the next big thing in pop music.

My Chemical Romance still has a special place in my music library though. :nick: But keep that other band, I don't want it near me. :wtf:

Something something idk

I'm pretty sure it WAS a major genre in the early millennium. I remember when Avril Lavigne first popped up bubblegum pop, which was the major pop genre at the time, sort of disappeared and all rock pop acts started getting more attention. I think things go through cycles but it will probably trend back soon.

That, and demographics (do/can they buy) and illegal downloading.

Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."

Don't trash MCR, they rule and are a bunch of great guys. Never irrelevant nor tragic, their music is amazing. But skip the Black Parade, three cheers all the way.

i love pop punk, but that was really popular in the early 2000's. Like in the means of radio, etc.
