Why didn’t Gaga hit top 10 with Abra but Chappell and Sabrina do so easily

I’m truly confused as to how Abra, which by every other metric seems to be a huge hit, did not hit the top 10. Even non-fan normies in my life, from children to seniors, all know this song. Most even know some of the choreo. It was such a cultural moment, and I hear the song everywhere (stores, restaurants, etc). And the video was premiered during an awards show with quite a bit of hype. (I know awards shows aren’t huge anymore but it still received a lot of press because of it). And yet it didn’t even crack the top 10

on the other hand, Chappell released the Giver, which I don’t think anyone considers a hit, and certainly the children and seniors in my life have never heard of it, and it was top 5  and now the Subway just debuted at number 3, and I really don’t see its impact on anywhere except these cult sites (GGD and Atrl)

am I insane to think that abra is objectively a bigger hit than the giver or the subway? Why  is billboard the only place that this doesn’t feel true?

I don't know, it is what it is. Radio barely picked up the song even after it was Top 10 Global Spotify for the first few weeks... and by the time it did the song was already not charting on Spotify. Dance music is also just not popular right now and Sabrina/Chappell songs are just more relatable. I think she would have had more success with Garden of Eden and even more with VIY.

Abra was released on Superbowl week where the points where twice as much as they are right now. It also had no physical release which is what mostly helps Gaga since Id say thats her best option out of radio, streaming and sales

This. Plus, she didn't have a full tracking week her first week.

This makes so much sense. Why didn’t they release physicals??

I thought the hype and attention from the awards show might make up for the lost days of the tracking week but clearly not

I guess I really do live in a bubble because I still love dance music. I thought everyone did because of dance trend TikTok’s but it’s prob just my own algorithm

It wasn't a bad strategy, honestly. I did cause a ton of buzz. But had she released the song that Friday and, say, performed it at the Grammys? It would have been top ten easy. That's my guess anyway.

Ya. Or released the song on Friday, and then still released the video at the Grammys. The video still would have gotten hype. A performance too would have been the best.

it was expected to go top 10 pre super bowl explosion..... if the song released on a full tracking week it prob could have even gone top 5. It was huge its release week. This is in the Us of course, the song was top 5 in many major music markets.

Simply because of the timing... Its peak #13 had more points than current #3 :icega:

Thanks to SuperBowl and Grammys :madge:
