The reason people have a problem with threads like these is because you aren't trying to "start a discussion" as you said. The title and content of how this thread started is only your opinion. Regardless of your intentions it makes you seem like you put yourself and your feelings on a pedestal above everyone else, with the implication that it's worth listening to you more than the other people who shared their equally valid opinions in the original thread about Gaga's nomination.

If you did actually want to start a discussion about this rather than just sharing your own opinion, maybe you should've titled the thread something along the lines of "Did Gaga deserve the GG nomination?" and ask that question in your post. Failing that, maybe you should look into starting a blog.

I'm happy for her and how good she must feel right now I simply don't agree with the people that thinks she should win? I'm sorry if this would offend her but to be fair I don't agree with everything she does and just because I'm a huge fan that doesn't mean I should have to. Also, I didn't go about it in a highly rude way and I never said she was a BAD actor I just said there were better performances and that you could look at this as the golden globes using a big star with a loyal fan base to get more ratings.

It's alright. You don't even have to like everything Gaga does or says.

We can also add that if the character that Gaga played required more efforts to look or act differently that it does now, I'm pretty sure Gaga would've worked hard for it because she can do it. But maybe that's just how the role and the concept of her character was designed and supposed to be.

I don't have other friends in real life who care about this stuff so I went about starting a discussion with my own opinion. The reason I said find my other threads is because I don't want anyone to think I'm one of those users who isn't here because they like her and instead wants to start trouble. I used the title I did because all I saw were people overwhelmingly saying she should win and I don't agree with that. I went in with my opinion and that's why I used that tag. I'm sorry if threads like these bother people but I've never gone on a persons "applause wasn't the best choice for a first single" thread to tell them they are trying to start fights. I was willing to have healthy debates with people and if you look at how I've been responding to others that's exactly what I've been doing. I know a lot of people on these sites do what you're saying I'm doing but just know that I would do anything for Gaga.. But that doesn't mean I'm going to lie or change my opinion because it goes against something she's proud of. I think it's a good performance I just didn't think it deserved to win over seasoned actresses who worked just as hard and did a bit better.

also, how am I putting myself above other people? If anything people have been trying to put themselves and the HFPA over me as if my opinion is worthless. In fact, look at what I said to that jewjew guy "I would never say my opinion means more than yours or that yours is more important than mine"

I kind of agree, there's a lot of brilliant actresses that deserve the award "more" for their more diverse roles but I'm still really, really happy for Gaga.

I sort of agree. It very well may be that they nominated her because they can now say "Lady Gaga's first Golden Globes nomination - watch on Friday! blah blah blah", but I also feel like it's a nice nod to it being her first roll. I don't think her acting has been incredible as much as it deserved golden globes (maybe later in her career it would) but I think it's okay for her to just be nominated. There's no way she'll win but it's nice for her to be recognized.

I'm just telling you how people are reading this. You didn't start a debate or discussion because you didn't give a question for people to respond to and build up a conversation. It was basically just "Gaga didn't deserve this".

Ok now I see what you're saying. But what I said was "there were better actors who did better who I think should have been nominated instead."

I'm an English major and in academia you don't ask questions you make statements and then people either agree or disagree and give reasons as to why they agree or disagree. 

Besides, people came in and debated with me and gave some pretty excellent points! I admitted I was wrong in some aspects! Also if you look some people are even saying that they agree with me so.. I wanted to start a discussion and that's exactly what happened

I see where you're coming from but it's a rather tiny field and not a main award so to say so I guess it's fair.

I think we all know that Kirstin is gonna win this and that's reasonable. Let's just be happy she got aknowledged for her commitment and talent

This isn't "academia" though. It's a pop music forum with predominantly teenage members.

People agreeing with you has nothing to do with the point I'm making lol. I don't even entirely disagree with your initial post. As an English major I thought you would realise that's not what I'm talking about at all.

No no I'm not saying that's what this is or anything I'm simply saying that's why it came off the way I did. I'm in school rn so I'm still in that mindset so if it came off as elitist or snobby then that's fine, but it doesn't actually reflect what I intended. You seem like a smart guy Harry and you're just as entitled to critiquing me and saying how I'm being perceived as I am entitled to say that better actors were overlooked.  I have nothing but respect for my fellow little monsters, as long as they aren't hateful.

It's just a nomination. It's a good incentive for her to pursue this passion of hers...besides, she's doing a nice job - specially in the last episode. She just got nominated and probably won't win, there's no reason for alarm...

When it comes to awards, she was also ignored a number of times when she clearly deserved more consideration and no one cared about it...so why do it now?

Yeah I probably should've made the title having to do with her winning not being nominated. But to be fair a lot of good actors didn't get nominated because she did and that's what I was trying to say I disagreed with.
