Best Live Performances by a female Vocalist.

Those 2 performances wouldn't even make it into my top ten best Mariah performances, never mind my all time top ten performances. Butterfly is extremely wobbly and doesn't have any stand-out moments and Emotions is nothing special, apart from the whistles. I never liked either songs, always found them boring (I swear, all I can remember from Emotions is that one line from the chorus). I notice that apart from the way you tagged your post, you don't say anything about this being an opinion. You just seem to state it like fact. But the fact is that people quantify good vocals in all different ways. I, like many people, think that there's more to good singing than high notes and the whistle register. It's about the feeling from the singer, the way it makes you feel. If all the notes are sung in the right order and sung on key and it moves you, that's a good performance. To be honest, the all time greatest vocalists display some really annoying qualities that get right on my wick. The unnecessary riffing (as if that makes a song better or something), the massive pauses between lines, the drawing out of the most basic of lines, the holding onto a note endlessly, the constant whistles. When you put all these flaws together, it's not singing to me, it's just showing off. I can't feel anything from it. They take so long to get to the end of a sentance, I've forgotten where the sentance started! It makes the song lose all emotion and makes it nothing but a set of vocal gymnastic exercises, nothing to do with words or how it makes us feel. I notice it tends to be Americans who love this kind of stuff, though. They pretty much invented oversinging and are convinced it's the only correct way of singing and that anyone who can't hit a perfect F5 note is simply not good enough. But the rest of the world tends to feel differently. A diva performance is only good in my eyes if it makes you feel something. And most of them don't do it for me. Except...

...This one. It's by a now unknown Australian artist called Vanessa Amarosi. This is her singing at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. While not my favourite kind of singing, this could make me a convert. This is undeniably amazing. She hits every note perfectly, she holds a note for 20 seconds, the sheer power in her voice envelops that stadium like nothing on earth. It's the biggest, most epic performance I've ever seen. I've never heard a voice be so majestic and all-consuming. It sends shivers over my whole body every time I hear it. When I think of all time best vocal performances, this is always one of the first I think of. From 2:51 is when it gets to the truly showstopping moments:

How did this girl not become world famous after this?

I never actually thought about that. Granted, yes, this is a problem at big events. But the point is, it's Vanessa's voice, she can sing at this level, it's not like it's someone else's vocals she sang (like that little girl in Beijing). I can't seem to find any other live versions of it but I think it's safe to say she can sing like this live but for reasons of perfection, she wasn't allowed. Apparently almost everyone lipsynchs at the SuperBowl, including widely praised singers like Whitney. And Beyonce lipped at the inaugration. So that must mean we don't know if they can really sing or not and must mean they're all secretly bad singers, right?

And also, after all I had to say, all you could respond with was one line? I expected you to defend Mariah more.

Not in the mood ngl

Overtime, I've learnt that you can't argue with someone to win them over

If they really love something, it'll happen in time:gaycat:

I have been so obsessed with Lara Fabian for a couple years now ever since I found videos of her on YT.
