TiphEret 1,320
I think this data shows that culture around guns is what make them dangerous or not. If you look at some countries they have a high rate of citizen owning guns , just look at France I was surprised by such amount but homicide are rarely commited by firearms. And clearly you will see there it's abnormal to own one unless for hunting or target shooting. So sure changing some laws are necessary but education about guns also go along. It is sad that some people feel the need to have a gun to protect themselves and that they consider it a solution to "handle a problem" it should not even exist so maybe we should look into why people feel this way in the first place and change that. What doesn't make sense is your idea of how owning and carrying a hand gun is a human right. Carrying a gun with you doesn't mean that you're going to be able to defend yourself from many threats. Should we also carry military weapons such as grenades, carbines and machines guns in case there's a crazy guy who owns this kind of weapons? Because a hand gun is not going to save you from a grenade or a machine gun.

In many places you should be (and are) able to carry carbines. (Nope, not the USA - this is the Apple Store in Switzerland...) By carrying a gun in public you're automatically putting other people in risk so that automatically threatens other people's human rights unlike gay marriage or free education. And please don't even start bringing other countries because in Switzerland firearm-related death rates are three times lower than in US and their laws and motives are very different. Of course but personally what baffles me is that people already assume they have to defend themselves, against what exactly? I don't want to be naive but it's already kind of sad and ****ed up that you assume you need to defend your self in case of... it's not like there is bears roaming around the city. If we pretend we are so civilized we should be able to find less lethal way to neutralize a threat. IMO the only reason to defend yourself with a gun is against someone threatening you with a gun, but if it was not that easy to get your hand around one you wouldn't need one in the first place. I know the 2nd amendment also consider the fact citizen should be able to protect themselves so the government does not have that much power over them and it's a good point but you can see many countries where people don't have the same gun laws as in the US and it's not turning into a dictatorship Sur le sable sur la neige, Sur les images dorées,Sur le front de mes amis, J’écris ton nom

As much as I hate guns there's no feasible way to ban, confiscate, and destroy every single gun on Earth.
