SpaceJam 292
MTV last did it in 2010 by removing MUSIC TELEVISION from their logo, and now they are undergoing another rebrand. It’s a little vaporwave, a little seapunk, a little Tumblr. MTV is hoping to win back all the viewers that left when they got rid of Music Videos. This time focusing on GEN Z. This decsion comes when VIACOMS stock has plummted in the last 12 months, including the CEO of MTV leaving in August. User generated content will be used in bumps in the form of 90s badly animated CGI. In another attempt at to bump up its revenue MTV has LOCKED ALL CONTENT on MTV.com (meaning you can no longer watch episodes of Catfish the day after they air without a sub) Belinda from Paste Mag: "I personally think that MTV is trying really hard, borderline desperate to stay relevant, there might be a hype initially, internationally and in the US, but I don’t see it lasting for long" "Viacom has had a rough go since the beginning of 2014, with shares down over 44% from all-time highs of $89.76. With the slowdown in revenues, investors had no problem selling shares in Viacom to purchase shares in other growth stocks with "greener pastures." A big trend that hit Viacom of late" Bloomberg magazine " This season, according to Nielsen, the TV industry’s chief measurement agency, ratings have declined by double digits at Viacom’s most popular cable networks, including Comedy Central, BET, VH1, Nickelodeon, Spike, and TV Land. At MTV, the company’s flagship network, prime-time ratings are down 21.7 percent from last season and 25 percent in the 18- to 34-year-old demographic the network targets. http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2015/07/rebrand-round-table-mtv.html http://www.thestreet.com/story/13351831/1/viacom-viab-stock-plummets-as-time-warner-outlook-stokes-industry-concerns.html http://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2015-viacom-mtv-sumner-redstone/

Kabexuela 1,184
That's what they deserve for ruining the art of music videos by replacing reality shows. I'm still bitter.

MTV is stupid as hell, THE ONE thing you have not done is bring back Music videos daily. That is why your ratings are sinking. LOL @ mtv playing videos at 4 am when no one is awake. No one cares about teen mom or ridiculousness, if we wanna watch FAIL videos we will go on youtube.
SISTERV 3,887
Or they could actually be smart and bring back TRL, Top Ten Video Hours, and Hip Hop/ Electronic hours, and save s--tty boring reality shows for about 10% of the airing time. I would definitely be excited to watch Carson Daily interview all these shady b---hes of pop everyday at 4pm and go to Times Square to stan for my queen Gaga whenever she debuts a new video. MTV didn't need gimmicks in the 80s and 90s because it was just music or shows about music.

DIdn't they bring it back JUST exclusively for Gaga in 2011 for her You and I music video? AAAAAH it was so intimate and amazing. Imagine 50 little monsters getting to sit down with Gaga in Times Square to celebrate a new music video 4 or 5 times an era? That would be amazing. And then sometimes they mix certain artists together. Imagine if TRL had existed in 2012. They used to be the network that would have stirred up some controversy and put Madonna and Gaga in a room together LIVE so they had to face eachother and talk about MUSIC. But something like that never got to happen because a whole bunch of executives thought Farrah from Pennsylvania not affording formula for her baby because she got drunk in Jersey was MUCH BETTER TV than that. BYE. DONE WITH U MTV

GloZell Green 11,723
MTV is just a belated parody of its former self, really sad. Though they're responsible for the sudden flop. Lady Gaga | Shakira
Pandora 162
Hasn't the network had this aesthetic for a while now? I don't get why it's only being reported now anyways, they're plummeting. They really need to listen to their viewers/ex-viewers and bring music videos to the forefront again. A huge TRL revival (and I mean HUGE marketing) would be best to start this and streamline the change slowly, but surely and effectively. Why not leave the reality stuff (Awkward, Faking It, Catfish, etc) for another MTV Reality network or something? Then again that my be costly.
