Yet you still won't address the country thing which is the exact same thing but on the flip side. You just sound like a baby throwing toys out the pram cos you want white people to have everything.

Alright sweetheart.

You're intolerant.

I did address the country thing in my post before last. I've stated that blacks have a problem making it in certain genres. Of course this needs to change. But there's no denying that they have advantages in other genres. This discussion wasn't about country music anyway, you only brought it up to make my point look bad. I never said I wanted white people to have everything, I've only been talking about how your musical path can be different according to your race.

I'm not intolerant at all. You're the one who's been showing intolerance towards me. I'm convinced tha you deliberately overlook the things I say, deliberately miss the point and deliberately put words into my mouth just to make me look bad. You know nothing about me.

I don't think you've looked at my point correctly. You've just twisted it with your own interpretation and let your bias of me interfere (ironically, what you're always telling me I'm guilty of). Notice how no one but you had a problem with it.

Oh, trust me, you don't know the first thing. I won't go into a long spiel about how I'm not a racist as that weirdly seems to make people think the exact opposite, but if you knew me in real life, you'd know how ridiculous your assertion is.

you make it sound like i follow your every post and obsessively disagree with you... i debate in a lot of threads on here. you just happen to come across particularly ignorant to me rather often.

so i should just change my mind because you say so and that's that. great point. about as strong as your other arguments, i suppose.

You do seem to aggressively disagree with me a lot of the time, though. I don't mind respectable disagreement, but you repeatedly attack me in a very hurtful way.

I'm saying you should give me the benefit of the doubt because it's very hard to judge people over the net when you've not met them or had discussions with them about their personality, beliefs and so on. Can you tell me about my background? My childhood? My education? My religion? My relationships? Most crucially in this case, do you even know of my racial background? If you don't know any of this, what right do you have to make such slanderous accusations me, or about anyone, for that matter? Yet, it's me who's supposedly intolerant?

i know that you're a red-headed scot so i'm fairly sure you're white. i'm also not making any slanderous accusations, i'm just calling it as i see it.

Everyone commenting saying "but she gets does get acclaim and respect". Yes, I never disputed that. I'm talking about her potential to be even more commercially acclaimed than she is if she wasn't judged on the appeal of her skin color. I see many racist comment spun towards Beyonce in the media and it's interesting to think how successful she would be if she was white.

It's obvious that if Iggy was black she wouldn't be as successful as she once was. Iggy relied on her whiteness for all that media attention and praise, just being honest

To answer your question, I'd say yes she would be taken more "seriously". I think she wouldn't perhaps be as commercially successful, but certainly more acclaimed and her opinions on issues would be taken with more than a grain of salt maybe. Beyonce's character and story and personality are literally the epitome of a role model for many many black women and women in general (and people of all genders/no gender) Because she is a woman who has defied the odds and through hard work and dedication generally managed to overcome the obstacles in society that make a successful black woman hard to come by. That's inspiring to people all over the world. I think her talent on top of all of the success is definitely a rarity in this world popularly, and its possible that she actually wouldnt have had to have worked "as" hard to get to where she is if she were white in the first place. I think her narrative would be less convincing. White people don't have a unified white idol who overcame the struggles of whiteness, so I honestly think shed just be a "pretty popular popstar", not an urban/pop hybrid artist which she is seen as today.

Unfortunately, she's also simply a tale of the potential "meritocracy" for some unfortunately who entirely miss the point, but thats neither here nor there, lol.

Many people in this thread have noted that black people have tended to succeed in the music industry, and this is true; they named artists like Diana Ross, or Aretha, or Whitney... but these women are still Black; Much of their success has gone actually quite unrewarded despite all of the general acclaim and much of it does have to do with racism. The fact that most black singers are placed in "Urban" or "R&B or Hip-Hop" for their works, sometimes even regardless of "genre" is a testiment to the dog-whistling, coded language used to perpetuate racism in the music industry. Even with radio play, its a thing :rip: Its a way of essentially "othering" and lessening the success and acclaim for Black artists.

Agreed. Some weeks ago I saw some female artist describe herself as "the Rihanna of pop music". Like... Rihanna is the Rihanna of pop music. :smh:

shes taken way way too seriously already and overrated. shes successful because shes black tbh. if she was white she'd be criticized and put up against other white pop stars = wouldn't be nearly as successful.

that said...man i cant stand beyonce lol. s--tty performer, not attractive at all, crappy singer, not a nice person..i like her music but i dont understand why everyone eats her sweaty p*ssy up.

No because she's one of the most successful and acclaimed artists in the world and she's like a goddess in the US so I would even say she's a bit overrated

It's relevant because that kind of stuff has elements in it that prove I'm not a racist. No, I don't know any of these things about you either, which is precisley the reason why I don't make wild accusations about you, as I don't know enough to determine your true personality. Assuming you didn't know as enough as me about music when you turned out to be studying musical theory is a prime example of jumping the gun. But that's just a minor slip up. You're accusing me of being racist, which is much more serious. You don't just say things like that to people without solid, undisputed evidence to back it up.

Yes, I'm white, but do you know about my ancestry? That on my dad's side, I have a lot of Lithuanian roots from his grandparents who fled to the UK to escape Hitler's regime (which is why I'm strongly opposed to Nazism)? Or that there is some black roots on my mum's side? Bear in mind that some people can also look white but actually be mixed race or just have "come out white" for some inexplicable reason from black parents. You can't say that someone has no mixed racial history just from looking at them or judging it all based on their nationality.

"Calling it as you see it." Yeah, right.
