Serendipity 7,821
Rita Ora has revealed she was groomed by a 26-year-old man when she was 14, but claimed it was a boost to her confidence, it has been reported. The X Factor judge said the s-xual abuse took place when she was a drama student at London's Sylvia Young Theatre School. But, astonishingly, the singer has insisted that she was not a victim of child s-x abuse. Talking for the first time about what happened, the 24-year-old said: 'I was 14 when I had my first relationship with a guy. I would say he was about 26. 'It is child abuse really, isn't it?' But she added: 'I don't want to say that I suffered it, because I wanted it. I don't want to say that I was forced to do it. 'I don't want people to think I was abused as a kid.' The revelations were made in Ora's new biography Hot Right Now, extracts from which have been published by The Sun of Sunday today. The four-time chart topper told how she was 14 when she first met the man and was 'very new' to the world of relationships. But she apparently claimed that the attention made her feel as though she could 'take over the world'. Ora's controversial comments were originally made to Lifetime TV in an interview on women's issues which was filmed in 2013. They have now been dug up by authors Douglas Wight and Jenn Wiley, who wrote the biography. It comes after singer Chrissie Hynde sparked outrage by saying she took full responsibility for a s-xual assault that occurred when she was 21. Kermit 15,807
As a victim of molestation at the age pf 4-7 I find this truly uncomforting, i'm glad she has found away to transfer it into a benefit on her part but why state that you were in s-xual relations with a grown man while you were at the age of 14? I really am starting to find Rita repulsive. “For me, insanity is super sanity. The normal is psychotic. display name 4,360
For the sake of her own mental health, it is good that she does not feel like a victim, but she really shouldn't have talked about this in my opinion. To me, it could make people take cases of abuse less seriously.
SKANK 14,288
"How dare you not be the type of victim that we want you to be Rita Ora. How dare you not validate our victimhood by agreeing that s-x at a young age effects everyone in the exact same way Rita Ora. Your own perspective on your own life experience is nothing more then denial Rita Ora. We know you better then you know yourself, you were a victim like us Rita Ora. To deny your status as a victim denies us our status as a victim Rita Ora, and for that we will not stand." Thoughtfulness is dead.
RAMROD 109,548
If that what was happening then it is pretty much consensual cos she wanted it.It might not be right by law, but she didn't feel used or corrupted by it so whatever floats her boat. Whispering 18,865
She was a victim. There is a reason why there are laws to protect kids this young from being taken advantage of by adults. I'm not going to judge her for her actions at that time or how she is framing this in her mind, but I do judge the adult who was much too old to be messing with someone that young. The only thing that I would fault her on is for putting it out to the general public in this way.
craig 680
14 is past puberty, and classifying a minimum age for s-xual consent beyond puberty is an arbitrary cultural construct. In Europe the age of consent is often 16, not 18, as in some US states. There are a lot of things that are illegal - doing d--gs, being a prostitute - that could be perceived as something horrible to be avoided by one person and no big deal by another."The only thing that I would fault her on is for putting it out to the general public in this way." The more realistic we are about teenage s-x, the more likely we are to pass moderate sensible laws that don't end up ruining the lives of some 18 year old who ends up on the s-x offender registry because they had s-x with someone 3 years younger and it came out. Jenniferella 2,774
She was NOT a victim, she stated that she WANTED this relationship to happen.
