Grace Jones: "Lady Gaga is obsessed with me"

Really Grace?

Look, I appreciate Grace Jones - her career has been no doubt authentic and wild and original and wonderful. But.. as an artist, she's ignorant. You're a musician at heart - so are the women you just tried to position yourself above of.

She's trying for relevance, quite clearly. If she really didn't care for all of that (money, fame, etc.), then she wouldn't namedrop all of these women (& brands) and proceed to separate (& better) herself from them. It's disappointing to read, actually.

She's also fabricated that Gaga went through her brother to get to her.. b---h, settle.

I don't know why most of Gaga's absolute top idols have to be so openly rude to her or brush her off in such an ugly way. It makes them look wore than Gaga ever can. She was inspired by them and merely a fan, they should at least be considerate.

Aside for the rockstars, Cher and Beyonce,

she had been choosing the wrong idols it seems. :fan:

Oh... fair enough, I guess. I assume I've seen more Grace than a majority of people here because a lot of Gaga's early outfits are very similar to Grace's! She's got good taste

Yes, it would be one thing if Gaga flat out lied and said she came up with the idea of her hooded leotards or even just the hoods themselves but she gave credit where credit was due. She specifically stated that Grace Jones was her inspiration and a fashion icon. Sad how Grace couldn't appreciate that at least.

I've never looked at one of my favorite artists and compared them to another because it never mattered to me. Gaga, Selena Quintanilla,  Mariah,  and Britney have all got looks that were inspired from another person, it doesn't make their artistry less credible.

What irked me the most:

“I basically said: ‘Bring me something. Don’t just take something from me. If you want me to work with you, then come with an idea. Come with music. Dazzle me."

For one, it implies that Grace sees herself as being superior from the get go; the collaboration could supposedly only benefit Gaga, because Grace acts like she has nothing to learn from someone like Gaga. "Don't just take something from me" - she's already assuming that a collaboration with her is some kind of divine priviledge :laughga:. Other than that I wonder how Grace even defines the word collaboration. Collaborating implies getting together and producing something with synergy and a shared effort - not simply presenting a song or an idea and then going with it.

Why does this even bother me :saladga:

I agree and I didn't imply it negatively or mean too. I seen the hooded leotards and loved the throwback. I have always liked the way Gaga does throwbacks to various icons. It's part of her appeal :queenga:

Okay... I can understand Grace being a little miffed when Gaga first came on the scene with the hoodie and leotard, even though Gaga did give her credit every chance she could.

But at this point, several years into her career... who exactly is she "copying" anymore? To anyone paying attention, she has very much grown into her own artistry, and her talents have proven to transcend many genres and mediums.

Give it a rest, Jones. The hood has been packed away, along with your humility.

lmao when old artists do this they just come off so bitter. it's literally a stereotype at this point.

i have a lot of respect for grace and her career, but tbh gaga is infinitely more talented than her. she doesn't need her. especially not with that piss poor attitude.
