Grace Jones: "Lady Gaga is obsessed with me"

@SKANK, you may not be familiar with literary theories; therefore, you may not be aware that there is a process called canon formation. the point is that categorizing works of art and putting representatives of different artistic mediums—be it music, film, or literature—in different boxes have nothing to do with the intentions of those artists. they do not approach their art in a gay manner. identifying as gay is not the same as intentionally wishing to create gay art. according to my studies, the perception of works of art and, therefore, the canons to which the belong may be viewed as gay. however, that does mean that the approach with which they were created is also gay. that was my point all along: you said that gaga has an unapologetically gay approach to her music—that is an utterly false and presumptuous statement.

i said it in my previous comment: if you wish to define gay music that way, fine. i do not have to agree with that.

the second part of your sentence is totally irrelevant. all things considered, you should not call yourself an educator. clearly, you alluded to the phrase; therefore, it implies that you are familiar with it. naturally, you are unable to admit that you were not precise. then again, when were you or, for that matter, grace humble? oh, right: never.

You said that there was no such thing as gay music multiple times.  You didn't say that you just disagree with classifying art as gay, you said, point blank, that "gay music does not exists". If you want to walk back that statement now that is fine.

I informed you of several gay artists, creating gay art, for gay people. If you don't think gay music exists, it is up to you to explain the existence of genres of music like Queercore. Which obviously you can't do.

So, I think this conversation is over.

oh, honey, but your Metropolis example only supports my point, not yours lol. The aesthetic of Metropolis is what remains iconic. The movie itself is still not considered very good. That didin't change. But it has a visual and aesthetic legacy... just like Grace.

also, let me remind you of the word "pop". You know it's short for "popular," right? It's quite literally about who is more popular when it comes to measuring success in the pop world. gaga isn't creating indie music. if she were, then that's how we'd be measuring her success. :smh:

If our conversation has devolved to the point where you are speaking to me like a condescending dick, then I don't think I need to bother with further responses, so I will leave it at this;

The film Metropolis is probably the most celebrated silent film of all time. Its influence on science fiction film makers goes beyond just aesthetics, so where you get the idea that is isn't very good is beyond me. You really must see it if you haven't, it's wonderful.

Gaga is a pop star, Grace Jones is not. Using chart positions as a way of comparing their art is ridiculous. Frankly, it's weird to discuss chart positions at all unless you work for Billboard magazine, or unless you are a weird fan who uses the number of units a record has sold to tell you how good it is.

Grace is bitter and negative, but that doesn't mean she is wrong. Gaga is obsessed with Grace's fashion and music, because Gaga is a gay man.

And thus concludes my interactions with the smug and hideous underbelly of GagaDaily.

Whether or not that is true, I'm glad you appreciate the film. It's brilliant.

Well no, they obviously sorted their **** out...

Have they? REALLY? DEEP DOWN IN MADONNA'S REBEL HEART? REEEEEEALY? :usrs:

I think not and it was just they happened to be there and they took some pics but I don't think it's 100%...it wasn't a planned get together

Then again it is Madonna and Gaga... you never know. But i think they are on civil terms now and probably more of a respect for each other than friendship etc.

I would love for a friendship of the two... but they are both as stubborn as each other.

You having not heard Grace's music doesn't negate its influence on Gaga.

She was a disco diva turned old school crooner, singing La Vie En Rose, thirty years before Gaga.

Thirty years before Poker Face, Grace Jones was singing dance songs with s-xuality explicit double entendres.

It's the similar styles of music, it's the fashion, it's the performance art approach to live musical performances, it's gender fluidity (both rumored to actually be men), it's the apologetically gay approach to music. Grace was and is a huge influence on Gaga. We don't have to pretend like she isn't just because Grace is rude about it.

From that point I guess that she IS the one who is obsessed with Lady Gaga and herself. Sorry, but she mentions her so many times. Calm down girl. Be more modest. Seriously, you are not the alpha and the omega of everything, and I clearly doubt that Gaga ever tried to copy her. :saladga: Since I remember Grace Jones is talking about Gaga copying her. Jesus.. :saladga:
