Riot Police Use Tear Gas, Water Cannons Against Refugees in Hungary

Running away from poverty = economic migration = migrant not refugee. Lot of migrants had been living safely in Turkey for several years.

I've also read that you can knock at a door in the wall, and Hungarian authorities will consider your refugee claim if you want to make one.

You are not right here, at all. These refugees, and yes most of them, the majority is fleeing from WAR goddamnit! So we are talking in this discussion about refugees.

Most of them reached Turkey may haven't had to live in war but do you know about their conditions? Most refugee kids could not even attend school for example. Please, don't get me started here.

The problem are NOT the refugees. Those people are going through the most stress of their lives right now, we could not even imagine that behind our Desktops and TV's. So of course they are rattled up and fight for their right to live! We are all being cynical here and saying they should be grateful for being treated worse than animals.

The case is that our politics profit the most from the third world and places like Saudi Arabia. Most of the Eonomy comes from war, selling Guns to etremists etc. .. But now we have, as a responsible and consciouss society to stand up for what's right. The governments such as Germany(where I come from) and America(which is btw totally cutting itself from the whole thematic) need to pay for the consequences of their actions.

So what exactly is happening now?

Didn't Hungary welcome them with open arms and try to influence other European countries too? If so, what has changed?

Hungary's position and the EU's policy towards them has put Hungary in a horrible position that is really can't handle and the rest of the EU is judging them even though they are more capable and yet don't have the extreme pressure that Hungary has. The EU is basically using Hungary and Greece as a buffer from the crisis by requiring them to register the refugees, but that's not something either country can handle so it's really crazy to judge them for trying to protect their own interest. The migrants also want to get through Hungary and Greece because, let's face it, they aren't great places to live.

Some people want the entire world to join together, hold hands and sing kumbaya. That's just not realistic though...

He is actually from the UK - and reading a lot of his posts is quite shocking, because he doesn't seem to know any facts about this refugee crisis.

It was either the BBC or The Guardian where I read that - not a right wing source. You should read a variety of left and right wing European media sources to get a better idea what's going on.

Well, you are absolutely right about Hungary being overwhelmed, that is true in fact.

And I agree that Germany(my country) should DEFINITELY take some immediate action, aswell the rest rest of the European UNION! As well as yes, America.

I saw this on CNN and MSNBC last night and both sources are considered to be pretty liberal. They have correspondents on the ground there with the refugees, interviewing them, walking with them, etc. Yesterday, out of 110 people who applied for asylum, 70 were granted asylum and 40 were rejected.

At this moment, Austria and Germany have stopped taking refugees. (Germany says if is temporary) Hungary doesn't want anymore either, so the refugees will have to find another way to the countries that are trying to get to.

Germany has pulled the plug for the moment. This might just be temporary, how temporary...we don't know yet.

I respect that you're not afraid to be critical of your country and government and not blinded by nationalism, no matter what others say.

I am surprised at the US numbers being so low but I suppose they have to have the money to cross an ocean and so very few of them do.

Apparently we have made a vow to increase refugee intake, but it's hard to tell if it's empty words or not at this point.
