Economy 52,854
People are too stupid to have government be less powerful. If you loosen the reigns, you'll have people like Kim Davis denying rights to minorities even more. Laws are ignored, people can protest or sue their way out of being held accountable, the process starts again somewhere else, the problem is never solved. You tighten the reigns and someone like Ted Cruz or Mike Huckabee can get into power and become something of a "democratic" tyrant. The same people, 31 to be exact, are threatening to shut down the government if a women's health clinic isn't defunded. They hold the citizens hostage and impose their ideals on us, we lose our rights, the problem is never solved. You leave it where it is, both results are present at the same time. There is no solution. People suck and will destroy any system with no remorse. Capitalism, socialism, it's all B.S. in the end because human indecency, selfishness, immaturity, and greed will always win out regardless. Taking care of each other and respecting each other is obviously entirely too much to ask for. (wow, I'm in a really pessimistic mood right now...sorry about that...) yes we do lack ethics... thats part of the reason i think socialism doesnt work well... if we all had the drive to work hard no matter what etc it might work better... but most of us to work hard we need a motivating force such as a reward... try to punish the rich with taxes and you loose entrepreneurship and business investment... and i mean the general rich... the richest of the rich are big enough to deal with money in massive enough amounts to get loopholes, or move operations overseas etc... so they avoid taxes but to become a multi-billion dollar company that is advantaged by chrony capitalism u have to be somewhat rich before becoming very rich... and in that state u have less drive under current system anyway both socialism and capitalism have pros and cons... but the point i was ultimately trying to make is that because socialism requires more government involvement, its easier to screw up especially if u have an incompetent or dysfunctional government A dysfunctional government like the US shouldnt even attempt socialism because they wouldnt end up like Scandinavia who did "decent", they would end up like greece or venezuela, those are countries who tried socialism and more government, were too incompetent, and managed to destroy everything Here in Ontario our left Liberals in 2003 won and said they were gonna "fix" our broken hydro system. I dont know what the hell they did the past 12 years but somehow they managed to triple rates of electricity to 15 cents per killowatt and its suppostu rise another 42% in 5 years and electricity now costs so much here manufacturers are leaving... they meddled with it, and they messed it up
Goosey 3,017
Terrorism doesn't require murder. Terrorism is "the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims." Anyone who thinks the "Oath Keepers" are terrorists is quite delusional and in fact, I would say anyone who thinks that poses a threat themselves. AquaFire Witch 160
She broke the law and her oath to serve the people. She works for the government, and thus her actions should reflect government policies. Denying a same-s-x couple a marriage license isn't her simply having a bad attitude, it's her using her position in the government to deny others the rights that they legally have. Yes she certainly did break the law. I don't disagree with that at all. I am just saying that there is going to be a lot of push back because the law was one way for so long. Now that the Christians lost this battle they are going to fight it all the way. So that excuses a federal worker from doing the job she's elected to do and paid tax payers' dollars to do because she doesn't like it? (not sure if that's what you're implying). She had plenty of opportunity to keep herself out of jail. She was told "just do your job" and given a court order to do so. She refused and was held in contempt. Anyone else would go to jail too until they decided to comply with the court order, she's not special and doesn't deserve special treatment just because she and all the other bigoted Bible thumpers think that religion excuses you from doing the job you took an oath to do. She needs to be impeached (or step down) and go get a job at a church or something. Religious "rights" do not trump secular law. If they did, we'd have a Christian version of Sharia Law. She didn't want her name attached to the document I guess is her argument. I don't agree with her, I think she's loony...yes she is a public servant and even in the bible Jesus told his disciples to follow the law!

I don't agree with her, I think she's loony...yes she is a public servant and even in the bible Jesus told his disciples to follow the law! That's the thing, her name wouldn't be on anything really. She doesn't officiate marriages or even give out licenses, she just approves people to get a marriage license. She could have let one of her underlings do it, but she told them not to either. It's not a matter of she doesn't want to do it, it's a matter of she doesn't want it done Besides, she claim's that she's working under God's authority, well she swore an oath to God to do her civic duty. he's nothing but a bigot painted with a cross Whimsical bitch

The US wouldnt meet my standards of a government that could successfully pull off socialism. and at the end of the day, i think the economy influences everyone more than whether or not a president or party personally suppost gay marriage for instance. Especially since its been a state matter and now a supreme court matter, the federal government often doesnt even get involved that much states do

Better Day 5,766
im sorta anti government to a degree... they tend to mess things up which is why im a liberatarian... freedom economically and socially... have government in charge only for whats necessairy id never go to the extent of an organization tho Ah no welfare. Economy 52,854
Ah no welfare. Let the disabled suffer. That is what you sound like. quite the opposite. What some lefties dont get is that right-winged economic policies arent created just for the rich... get busness investments and create jobs and peoppe can work for themselves and be productive rather than rely on webs of dependance with socialism the government tends to screw up economy and income inequality actually rises because with higher unemployment or lack of good quality jobs, ppl cant bargain for higher wages. Look at the US, been increasing regulations last 10 years or so and also taxes on wealthy... Income inequality is still rising. And the job situation still bad actually. Official unemployment may be 5.3% but too many jobs pay badly. Also labor force participation rate is at a 30 year low at 62.5%. If people didnt drop out of workforce, job creation would still have unemployment at almost 9% after all these years... The US can barely get GDP to grow past 2% still And most of socialist Europe is a mess beyond belief lets not even go there. They tax the rich so much that theyve managed to have lower income inequality... But the economy is so bad, that even if the average person gets a bigger slice of the economic pie, the middle class in most of Europe is still worse off than in the US! Plain and simple, socialism is not impossible to pull off... Invest the money well, and despite high taxes businesses may still seek ur nation for good educated workforce, low crime, good infrastructure etc But understand this.. When you give the government more power to determine how businesses shoukd be run (regulations), or how more of the nations wealth will be spent (thorugh taxes and then spending), to make it work you need a very competent government that knows whats its doing socialism requires more precision because its more delicate and complicated. Theres many rules and a lot of government programs. To manage all that the government must be competent and not dysfunctional... that might describe scandinavia which is probably why they are one of the few who pulled off socialism... But it didnt describe Greece or Venezuela who failed miserably with socialism... Im sorry to say but a dysfunctional congress like that of the US at this time couod never manage resources or policy well enough to make higher government involvement in economy work. The US is better off letting private sector do its job
