Himeros26 1,688
The patterns of both tours in terms of themes and sections are literally identical. The substance is very similar, but Gaga managed to add her own alterations and personality, that's why she can't be bashed for taking inspiration from Madonna. The problem with most Madonna wannabes throughout the years is that they all took everything from Madonna and added nothing themselves, that however, is not the case with Gaga ; she's one of the very few that managed to create her own thing with that base. Again, unabashedly. And I disagree on that as well, Madonna might not be the strongest vocalist, but she's a great interpreter, she has the ability to tell a story and convey the right emotions. Watch this video Girl. As someone who aspires to do musical theatre, telling a story is only half of the work. Musical theatre is a musical style. Gaga's voice is dark, her vibratto is very pronounced, and when she belts, it's powerful. Have you seen the Queen warm up backstage at the VMA's for DWUW with no mic? "Telling a story" is a concept that is used in many genres, especially Country music and with singer-songwriter types. Musical theatre is a step beyond that, and you are 100 per cent on the right track, with Gaga having a theatrical voice! It's in her actual vocal technique...it's always been there. That's why Gaga was one of the 10 to 15 (out of a couple of thousand who tried out) who got into the CAP 21 program at NYC. Her vocals had to be excellent and theatrical! I agree, that's a clear and obvious difference between Gaga and Madonna.
wahkeenasitka 1,995
read the entire interview. it's really great! i especially appreciate this section..."I feel in a way we're starting to, in part, live in a world I always wanted to live in. When I started my career, I was very naive. I wanted to change the world. I wanted to live in a world where it didn't really matter if someone was gay or straight, transs-xual, lesbian, whatever - and we're certainly getting closer in some areas.I have to say, though: There's a daisy chain of people who affected change long before I was around, like Oscar Wilde and Quentin Crisp. There are people no one knows about from the Victorian time. I'm always kind of coming across drag queens and Bohemians who were around 100 years ago who were a part of that daisy chain. So, I think it's amazing that we're edging toward the kind of liberalism that I always dreamed of."
Psychedelic 1,098
Dear fellow Madonna fans, we have to stop trying to make these people to like Madonna, all we are doing is quite the opposite. All Boy George said this time is quite fair. He credited Madonna as an influence for Gaga, he acknoledge her legacy and career but also implied she was a bit immature about the comparison with Gaga which is very true. He is prasing both, everyone should be happy. But honestly we have fallen for the trap of that certain member who does nothing on this forum but give unconstructive comments about many artists except her fave Taylor, but I've seen him/her do shady marks about the very Gaga too. If some monsters here have failed to see that, sorry, but he isn't fooling me.DO NOT give him what he wants, ignore him... He wants to make us pissed and cause fights. Jjang 2,262
It's so funny how people address me as if I'm uneducated and clueless about Gaga. Sorry to disappoint you, but I've heard every song (released and unreleased), watched all her interviews, performances, tours, etcetera etcetera...So when I compare the two I'm not basing my sayings on ignorance, just wanted to let you know. FameHookah 4,615
Talent is subjective and surely goes far beyond vocal acrobatics.do you even like gaga at all? Seriously... wahkeenasitka 1,995
dude. does this thread have to devolve into an obsessive comparison between Gaga and Madonna? really? does it really need to go there? Can't we talk about the meaningful and insightful things that Boy George actually said?!!!For example: Speaking of bad habits, you've been very vocal in discussing your d--g and alcohol use early on in your life. These days, what's the wildest you get? What's a typical night for you like now?"Obviously I don't think of those past things as being wild days - I just think of them as being quite negative. I was talking about this last night at dinner. I think what you learn as you get older, if you're smart, is that the joy is in the mundane things - the small things, like being with your family, taking a walk, having coffee with friends, having meals with friends, good company. It's like that saying, "the devil is in the detail" - sometimes I have the most fun when I'm just walking around with no set plans. Because there's so many special effects in my life in terms of the career thing and traveling and all of that kind of excitement, I counterbalance it with sheer ordinariness in a way, and that's where I have the most fun sometimes."That is called maturity and wisdom right there and I'm glad he has earned it. All you do is belittle her achievements and talents..It's getting annoying at this pointNo, I'm trying to find the balance between obsessively hating on Madonna and blindly worshipping Gaga. If you have the gift to see a context, you'd comprehend that all I'm saying is that we should respect and acknowledge Madonna's influence on Gaga, but at the same time we should not discredit Gaga's artistry and individuality. This is a Lady Gaga fan forum, not a worship Gaga on a mindless level forum. I have hundreds of favorite artists, my taste swings from artists like Madonna and MJ to Tracy Chapman and Iron Maiden. So just because I'm on a Gaga forum (because I appreciate her as an artist) doesn't mean that I should suddenly forget all of my other favorite artists and not defend them when due.But of course you won't reply to this and state that you understand my point, instead you're just happy you've got a few likes on your "do you even like Gaga?" comment. Congratulations I guess.

Agreed that the discussion should be on Boy George's points but it's the 'Madonna haters' who caused the initial digression with their flamebait, which in itself digressed to several unnecessary (and pointless considering he obviously does stan Gaga ) insults at Jjang. I love what he said here, and as someone who has faced the same struggles, he is so right about finding joy in the small things...the things you overlooked for years, that you didn't even know were there. It really is like an awakening, of sorts. My wish is that Gaga will fully embrace this one day. It is a journey, for sure, and I do believe she is on her way.
