Germany did not do the right thing. Ah, same old story. You think it's good that child rapists escape justice?

" In Germany, though, a campaign is under way to persuade them to sign up for confidential treatment, even if they have abused a child"

So rapists just sign up for this confidential crap and they hush up their crimes? If someone tells a doctor they raped a child, that doctor should go straight to the police, have them thrown them in jail and toss away the key (only because Germany doesn't have execution).

Germans are open-minded. Just our politician sucking :awesome:

Yeah I don't agree with that too, but it's in our laws that they need to be silent about it

He doesn't think it's good.

But it's discussable what the point of a punishment like prison is. The point of punishing is that it prevents the paedophile to commit this (awful) crime in the future. The therapy has the same point. Prison and this therapy are both to prevent further child abuse. I think it's better to have both, but in order to get more people to sign up for this treatment (especially those that really can't control their s-x drive) you need to have this confidential treatment. In the end, this therapy is probably the most effective way to prevent further abuse besides death punishment (which is illegal in EU treaties: if a country here has a law for death punishment, it immediately has to leave the European Union).

The question is: which in the end is more sucessful in preventing child abuse? Prison or therapy? I think the second, because only a small amount of child abusers are found by police with proof. If all child abusers were to be caught, prison and therapy would be the best solution imo.

Economy

I support this!!!

also on the reporting dilema... They wont come forward anyway if they are threatned arrest...

so might as well offer confidentiality and helpthem prevent it from doing it again if they really want the help!!!
