Diamond Heart 4,400
I wouldnt say it was racist at all. Just kinda sloppy in its references to the cultures, but there was clearly no racist intentions behind it. "GGD IS NOT FOR YOU" - Admin

Willeo Soeurs 37
the only thing that came into my mind is the performance reminded me of Kylie Minogue's X tour
Vernier 3,786
Oh please, I'm not even defending Katy, but the only thing controversial about that performance was the fact that 5 years into her career, an artiste of her calliber still can't put on consistently good performances, vocal wise :sweep: Hollywood has been (mis)appropriating the Geisha culture for a while now, why are people just choosing to get offended now? Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn
dontbesweet 7
If anybody does anything that isn't part of their own culture, it's deemed racist. That's racist in itself.

They really always have. Look at the controversies over Victorias Secret.
Evanescence 3
I find cultural sensitivity in the USA to be quite overblown. You have intentional racism and actions/words that can be misconstrued as racism. Showing up with blackface on halloween pretending to be an ethiopian maid is racism. Dressing up at an awards show in a geisha costume is not, no matter how inaccurate it may be.

craig 680
But, as someone who lives in Japan, I see a similar mix and matching with Western culture all the time as well as seemingly endless appropriation of foreign cultures for entertainment purposes------------------------Exactly. The PC left assumes non-whites can borrow whatever they want from western culture. Or retain the hijab or whatever within the west.If you're white can can borrow from any European or American culture (from Greek and Romans on down). But no Asian influences allowed - even though they are prosperous countries in way oppressed by Westerners, and even though the West is supposedly "multicultural" now.Silly PC extension of the blackface ban where it doesn't belong. Nemo 4,317
 give her a breakThere's enough actual racism in the world to go after, without having to harass good-hearted, liberal anti-racist artists like Gaga and Katy over this bull**** concept of cultural appropriation. Get your damn priorities straight.

Smooth Criminal 2
Forget about the act being racist or not..... Can we talk about how girlfriend NEEDS to hire a vocal coach?....like NOWWWW? Honestly, she can do so much better if she gets vocally trained. Even her fans are not liking her performance.
