Quark 7,089
One DJ giving (minimal) credit to Gaga =/= the entirety of the EDM 'community' thinking Gaga is the watershed moment in it gaining mainstream popularity. Majority of proper EDM fans would never even regard Gaga's music as EDM The recurring problem with almost all of your threads is that they have so much uncontrolled bias and you don't look at anything with a neutral and realistic outlook, hence why they all end up as such cyclical, pointless and mundane arguments. No offence intended obviously, everyone has their stan moment and everyone gets over it eventually The problem here is that some of you simply undermine Gaga's impact. I could name you at least two other DJ's plus the artists Cascada who have also credited Gaga for EDM's mass acceptance. Plus it is quite obvious that everyone followed with the EDM sound after Gaga. Also, whether or not EDM fans regard Gaga's music as EDM or not does not matter because dance pop IS part of EDM. House, Dubstep, Trap, ect. are all part of the EDM umbrella, even if Gaga did not directly influence these styles.

I don't deny Gaga's successes or her impact, but I don't agree at all that she had much (if any) impact on current music with ARTPOP of all albums. Commercially, for the most part that album went catastrophically wrong so I doubt many top 40 chart artists would want to recreate that lol From a lot of general EDM stans, dance pop is to EDM what a single cornflake is a bowl of cereal, a small piece that you wouldn't care less if it went missing. I don't agree obviously and my music taste is mostly generic pop but exaggerating Gaga's input to "EDM's mass acceptance"(which is even small compared to some other artists) is akin to saying that her name-dropping gays in born this way is the reason for growing LGBT acceptance Ie. other artists done it long before her and in far more depth. You already had like a MASSIVE amount of evidence from Jjang (and me and others in a previous thread) that this is not the case and you admitted yourself that there were a ton of artists who were already making electronic dance pop You claimed earlier that Gaga only made that style "accepted". So which one is it, because Britney, Madonna, Rihanna and Katy were all using EDM elements in their work before/at the same time as Gaga. So which influential pop star is left, really? No one. When I say Gaga made a massive acceptance of EDM, I am referring to TF and TFM, not ARTPOP. This thread is about the possibility that DWUW may have had a factor in the current trend of an 80s sounding synth/baseline.

I know, that's why I addressed the two points separately in individual paragraphs.

Yes, and I still accept that there were many EDM hits before Gaga. The thing is that they were all sporadic hits, happening within months to within years. No one had the impact that Gaga had on EDM mainstream acceptance, because after Gaga, at least in the U.S, music switched from Hip Hop, pop rock, to electronic dance. Why is this so hard to understand?

No one had the impact that Gaga had on EDM mainstream acceptance, because after Gaga, at least in the U.S, music switched from Hip Hop, pop rock, to electronic dance. Why is this so hard to understand? 2008s biggest hits were pop / EDM though, meaning the trend had already begun and it was on its way to reach its peak, which it did in 2009, luckily enough, Gaga debuted at that time and the rest is history. Why is that so hard to understand? The music industry was very keen on EDM elements when Gaga had already debuted, she benefited from it just as much as anyone else. Quark 7,089
Dude, maybe I agree about pop rock but hip hop? I think once again you misunderstood me. I think that you think that hip hop and pop rock evolved to electronic dance. What I mean is the electronic dance replaced hip hop and pop rock as the popular genres in the U.S.

Hip hop is still one of the most popular genres and it suffered no defeat whatsoever in the face of a bunch of pop stars.
Quark 7,089
Dude.... They're almost identical...No. I think you are referring to the synths in the chorus of DWUW. I am referring to the synths in the verses (or most of the song). Drake's song definitely are not like that.
