JDi 1,495
The vintage, RnB sound was already popular in 2013, though. DWUW was basically Gaga's version of Get Lucky and Blurred Lines. those weren't 80s r&b lol those were 70s disco funk... or what she did more authentically with the Fame bonus tracks 'cause it's not all about Moroder and his Summer you know. there was the scene first. JDi 1,495
Does anyone even ****ing know about DWUW? Who's gonna listen to a Lady Gaga album to look for the next new sound? There is nothing new, interesting or creative about that DWUW synth bassline you've been plugging and many artists (or should I say producers) can have the same idea to take an 80's sounding synth and put it on the radio becuase that has been done for the last decades.well less is more and also less is fresh these days and it IS a sound brought back so I don't see where's the reaching. we might have not examined the whole evolution of the sound gaining popular appeal in the past two years but it's definitely one of the very first authentic throwbacks so it's all claimable (?). Yves 1,891
She changed the pop industry with that fascinating song. Like she helped popularize electropop music back in her peak days.

JDi 1,495
Released August 7, 2013 and by that time she should've already had DWUW recorded but yeah this one was big enough and almost precisely what we're supposed to be talking about (unlike most other suggestions here). JDi 1,495
blurred lines is a rnb song influenced by late 70's sounds. lolI don't care what the only way it could be genre-d is when it's only got the rhythm part of it all, like everything popular ever. it's not bluesy and it's not 80's and it's not synth so lol

I was trying to say that you can't pinpoint any impact to DWUW (unless people credit DWUW- which has yet to happen) because similar songs were released at that time. lol
djBuffoon 12,102
The vintage, RnB sound was already popular in 2013, though. DWUW was basically Gaga's version of Get Lucky and Blurred Lines. Those two are more 70s disco and 60s Motown funk, not 80s electronic/RnB. The three songs really sound nothing alike. To the OP: I had created a a very similar thread and I agree. Yes, DWUW was not a hit with the public, but that in no way suggests that artists who keep their ear to the ground didn't hear it and think "wait a minute, I need a song that sounds like that." I mean, ever since DWUW dropped, we've had more than a few songs with a very, very similar vibe and bassline. It's foolish to write it off as a possibility. Didymus 34,379
well less is more and also less is fresh these days and it IS a sound brought back so I don't see where's the reaching. we might have not examined the whole evolution of the sound gaining popular appeal in the past two years but it's definitely one of the very first authentic throwbacks so it's all claimable (?).It is totally claimable. But this user has a history and that history changes the way a lot of people reply to this "suggestion". When you think Gaga is the only artist who is putting music out today who has any sort of serious artistic impact (which is Enigma's belief), threads like this don't become a mere suggestion, they become the latest link in a chain of endless "See what Gaga did for the industry" fallacies. I'm sorry but you're going nowhere and I'm not coming. can you not read? If you think this discussion that you decided to spark isn't going anywhere, then don't quote me back. The irony! The simple fact is that no one can solely attribute the revival of RnB 80's sounds to DWUW when there were similar, bigger songs out there. It'd be foolish and delusional to think otherwise.
