When people question your Gaga fandom....

You don't need to fall back on Charts, Sales, Awards, Tour Gross, Or any other superficial and irrelevant measurable number in order to justify yourself.

We are fans, I assume, because of artistic and humanitarian, reasons.   Whether it's music, stage shows, fashion, art, her humanitarianism; just the kind of person and artist she is.

There is no measurable number that would make me like Gaga if I didn't enjoy her artistically.  The commercial music machine can pump out and market pop artist du jour people as much as they want, and they do, but nobody can be forced to like them just because their image is ubiquitous.   90% of pop stars do nothing for me, no matter how much the marketing machine cranks them up.  I might like the occasional song from various people, but the list of pop stars I would call myself a fan of is very small.

So the next time somebody questions your fandom for some reason, don't argue with irrelevant numbers.  Respond by showing and describing the artistry of hers that makes you a fan.  Because there is no counter-argument to that.  You like what you like, and don't need numbers to back up your opinion.  People arguing numbers are not fans of artists, they are fans of celebrity.  Celebrity is superficial and transient and not worth getting hung up about.

For me, it all starts with Gaga's voice and her base as a solid musician.   The only argument I need is one of any innumerable videos that show off her voice.   Because her voice goes straight to my soul.  And nobody can argue against the way I respond to the sound of that voice; any argument based on some perceived number or pop culture measurable is completely irrellevant.

For me its because I enjoy her music, her view on life and she's an overall amazing person. Simple. :proud:

whenever someone questions my reasons for loving gaga, charts have never even been in my top 5 reasons, in fact they aren't a reason. I thank my former close friend for playing me Poker Face in 2009 because i never listened to the radio & her artistry, personality & music make her my fave. I always find people rely on sales & technicality in arguments way too much (vocal range, awards & US #1s don't make someone an amazing artist, performer or person tbh)

What a beautiful post :flutter: I totally agree, and I'd actually be surprised if someone responded to the question of "Why do you like Gaga?" with "Because she's sold X amount etc" If someone questions Gaga's commercial success then numbers may be brought into play

If someone asked me why I like Gaga I'd refer them to a few performances or music videos that I greatly enjoy :laughga:

Because she made me like music in general. Before I discovered her, I had always been like "why do people listen to music?"

Now I've become addicted. :pole:

My reason is Born This Way and the Monster Ball. I was a fan before then, could bop to her music :music:

But I became a Monster when I saw her crying before the Monster Ball at MSG, I felt like I understood her and she understood me, then I gave Born This Way (album) a chance and was blown away at how this women just seems to get us. I had never had a personal connection to someone I haven't even met in person until Mommy Monster :monsterpaw:

Then Swinefest happened and I was even more hooked thanks to Swine. She's been through something I've been through and I felt like she was speaking directly to me and everyone else who's known that kind of pain. Plus Swine is a total rave so...

Yeah, amazing music, amazing person, preaches love, togetherness, acceptance, peace, is talented and creative, and worked her a** off to get to where she is now. What's not to love?:queenga:

You're stinky
