Morphine Prince 107,594
We all know the media likes to build someone up and destroy them. But let's be real here. ARTPOP was deemed a flop before it was even released. Why did the media have a vendetta against Gaga? She's one of the most outspoken socially progressive Pop acts and they just turned on her? We saw so much negativity coming from the media for no apparent reason. What do you think it was exactly? For fun? Why hasn't it happened to other artists? SissyFromSpace 20,884
People put Gaga on the high bar. They expected her to have the same success as Born This Way. But then they followed the "FLOPGA" bandwagon once ARTPOP did above average. But NOW everyone's licking her ass because of her Oscars performance (except those mental Madonna fans) Barbie elitist - Weaboo - Sissy
JustPokeHerFace 2,564
Artists usually hit their low point soon after a massive peak. And since Gaga was absolutely huge in 2009-2011, and backlash had been building, it all hit her in the ARTPOP era. Plus the media doesn't like risk takers in pop music. Michael Jackson and Madonna suffered backlash for decades because of their daring nature, and the media would be particularly cruel when they hit a low point in their respective careers. But I would almost rather the media bash her in her low point than forget about her because that means they still care enough about her, and that keeps her relevant. ItsTommyBitch 12,640
Madonna, aka Angela Chang, bribed the media with help from Katy-Keene Perry Seriously, idk though. I think its just because the industry in general likes to see people fail... especially women . Also, maybe because she still is quite polarizing for many because of her generally progressive views and "out-there" approaches to life and art. 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから
mariomania1234 11,368
Because she was at the very top. Her level of fame was at a high that very few celebrities get to experience. "The bigger the star, the bigger the target."- MJ

Iwontell 7,312
She got too big, some ppl started seeing her as a menace, some ppl got tired of her style, she became really "niche" (bc she stood up for LGBT rights a lot of ppl turn their back on her), some LM were a pain in the ass of other fandoms - which turned a lot of people against her...there are so many reasons, pick your favorite ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.
gagzus 16,302
My main theory still stands since 2011; It's because unlike the other popstars (Katy, Bey, Miley etc...) who followed the whole gay is ok thing bc it was popular at the time thanks to Gaga, she stayed & still is committed to LGBTQ+ rights & human rights as a whole, they want her to look hot or bat-sh!t crazy all the time and she refuses to conform, she may be a popstar to others but we as fans know she's a 29 year old punk woman waving a gay rights & youth rights flag constantly. They just can't tame her and she won't be tamed unlike the other popstars that're popular currently

Gaga"flopping" was an EVENT. It was one of the most talked about moments in pop culture during 2013. There were several essays written by high-profile magazines a--lyzing what happened. In some sick way it was pretty fascinating to witness, but I wouldn't want it to happen again. It's science, bitch
Vernier 3,786
Besides the fact that the media loves to tear down what they have built up (the fall of the superstar story has a nice angle to it for journos), It also had to do with what the album was perceived to be about. The album was titled "ARTPOP" and immediately that opening statement with the reverse warholian speech was released, it was already deemed "pretentious", and from that moment, they were ready to tear it down I sometimes wonder what would have happen if the album had a different name Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn
Bloody 64,631
I could care the less at this point even thinking it. We all know how media and press work. All it matters is that I enjoyed the album and that's it.

So i'd say they want her to be popular again but then tear her down over & over it's a vicious circle sadly

Woolfsmck 2,763
Some of Gaga's early success had to do with her being 'new' and 'different' ....its pretty impossible to keep up those two traits. like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. My words give a clue, look inside to see whats true

She's not the same. i'm thankful she pulled through, i think she could've easily joined the 27 club because of it all, i appreciate her talent & music now more than ever and i get annoyed by fans trying to tell her who to work with, what songs to make & write bc idc anymore.i think she's stronger & now that it's over the whole ARTFLOP stuff won't happen to her on such a bad scale ever again
