It had sold 5.8 million copies WW by the end of 2010. It's sales must've increased by now.

But I don't think it has gone up to 8 million, I don't know. It seems odd. Either way, The Fame Monster and Born This Way slay :legend:

Sucker has 3 great songs and the rest is bland and genric. No wonder why she's not selling despite massive promo. She has potential but she is wasting it, or maybe she just isn't as good as I think she could be.

I completely agree. Sucker missed the mark for me and I was sort of annoyed that it was the album the industry decided was going to be her breakthrough.

How about this... if the album speaks to you and you enjoy the album then that should be enough for you. Who cares if an artist is number one for every single and has certified platinum records. There's a lot of records that have sold millions of copies when they were **** records to begin with. I'm going to take quality over quantity any day, I don't care if billboard thinks it sucks or the GP don't buy her records. At the end of the day none of those will make the quality of the album any better or worse in your eyes. They're a lot of artist who get Grammy nominations and certified albums that honestly don't deserve it and there are artists that come out with genuine albums that are so wonderful and beautiful that never get it's praise. Sorry if this is an unpopular opinion. Just remember that opinions are like assholes, everyone has one!

I think they're somehow connected...having a critically acclaimed album usually means more ppl feel tempted to buy it...at the same time, having constant commercial success usually leads to kinder reviews of your new materials...so I don't know, I think they go hand in hand to some extent and you can't really choose just one of them... - I can think of many examples that defy this logic though :toofunga:...

As for Gaga's next album, I think she needs to grab people's attention again and be commercially successful, if she intends to keep working in the way she does (making everything big and extravagant)...critical acclaim is great but it won't pay for her expensive stages, videos and clothing...I'm not saying that she would disappear without commercial success, but it wold be a very different act...

ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.

Critical Acclaim.  If the songs are good, then maybe her tour gross would be higher. :fan:

Quality > Sales > Critical Acclaim

Quality and critical acclaim don't necessarily match up.

lol good songs don't make for a good tour gross. The MDNA Tour grossed 300M.

60-70 on metacritics isn't that bad, and it's not like people actually look at those scores, but people actually look at sales

8.1M The Fame Monster sales are not combined with The Fame (the 16.4M sales are). The Fame and The Fame Monster sales are always combined by IFPI, Billboard, you name it. all music industry sources. When i say 8.1M for The Fame Monster, I mean both the EP which includes 8 songs and the deluxe edition which includes the EP and all songs from The Fame album. But if you count The Fame album and The Fame Monster (EP/standard and the deluxe) together, you'll get 16.4M WW sales (4.5M in the US).

Thank you so much, I'm happy you are still here.

to me it would be critical acclaim, I'm here for quality and standing ovations, not for a Katy Perry show.

I just want music that I loved. The whole ARTPOP 'underperformance' bashing from the medias and MOSTLY from the fans changed my perception and relationship with music. It has become something more personal that sales and critical acclaim cannot get me.

But if I really had to choose, I'd go with critical acclaim and poor sales.
