Total functional expenses were $4 million

for a foundation that didn’t actually help any specific individual

.  It does seem that around $3 million of that was spent with a company called Jack Morton Worldwide to “create, equip and manage” the Born Brave Bus to fulfill the foundation’s “programmatic objectives.”

What? Is this true?

I'm sorry I love gaga but how has the born this way foundation helped anyone? When I watched the launch of the btwf with oprah winfrey it looked so promising but it doesn't really do much.

AFAIK, their major activity to date has been the Born Brave Bus. I haven't been there, so I can't say how helpful it is or isn't. But people who have, seem to think it was great. If that's not enough for you... don't donate. No one's making you.

That's sad that she couldn't find proper doners/sponsors for the BTWF! It deserves it..

I do not believe that there are fraudulent things going on. It's a foundation, not a company set up to make profit. Like with all other charities, you really do not know where and how and when your money is being used.

I see, well I just hope the money is being put to good use. :ohno:

But who and how would do sth like that? Gaga and her mother are the presidents of the company or whatever it's called. Do you think that it's them who do these things? Why would Gaga or her mother want to have one more million in their pocket when they already have many millions? I mean, I don't get the motifs of this. If it's not Gaga or her mother, then it's technically not their fault. Yeah, they have to watch their employees and finances closely, but you can't blame them.

Roger Friedman, who wrote this story, is the same person who wrote the story a year ago about the BTWF. At that time, a press release was sent out debunking his claims.

I don't trust this guy, or his articles.

I'm not saying the BTWF isn't struggling. It's a non-profit organization and they tend to have to fight for funding constantly to stay afloat. I simply don't believe this Roger guy has any insider information, because he has been wrong before.

Didn't this information surface months ago and turned out to be false? I remember Gaga's mother or someone else clarifying it

Do you hear that? It's poison.

Ugh. In the other story, he took the amount the BTWF donated to other charities (as though that were its purpose), and conflated it with the standard way of rating a charity's efficiency -- comparing its fundraising expenses versus program expenses. But there was no connection there, and he was being either very stupid or intentionally misleading.

This time, at least he had the decency to write "No one did anything wrong," although I see that hasn't stopped certain "fans" here from speculating otherwise, based solely on this article. :smh:

Wish celebs would just raise money for already established charities who have got their **** figured out instead of making their own. Even though her heart is in the right place, the BTWF always seemed kind of ambiguous and not very well-managed to me :noparty: I guess I've never seen the born brave bus/tour so i cant fairly judge its impact tho

Throwing money at problems is not Gaga's way.  She likes to get personally involved in efforts to help people.  She uses her reach to help in projects all over the world, and I think that has more impact than just financial donations.  Regardless of the finances BTW Foundation has helped many people, and that would be Gaga's measure of success.

I live outside the space time continuum.
