You would think I would betray my Deity?

Funny how so many people ignored the talented song writing part and went straight to her vocals.

You mean the "do you ever feel like a plastic bag?" part? Yah, sure jan.

Now How much did she pay them to say that?

Childish much? I honestly feel sorry for people like you who hate Katy with a burning passion that they feel like they need to fool themselves into thinking just because Katy is being praised, she has paid them to praise her. Your immaturity and lack of undrestanding is extemely concerning. Where are you receipts thay she paid them to say that anyway? Keep on living in the delusional world of yours. If thinking that Katy paid them to say that helps you to sleep at night, then keep on telling yourself that, boo! <3

Firework is a good empowerment anthem, but it is generic. Katy can make good generic pop, but it's still generic pop. When we're talking about her pop stuff in particular, it feels weird to call her a good songwriter. Maybe a good mainstream pop songwriter, but a general songwriter, no. However, her ballads are of a higher lyrical quality and seem to ring true more. You can tell it's what she truly wants to do.

As for her voice, well, it's very quirky. Her Californian accent comes through so strongly and it can sound a bit odd. This suited her earlier songs, but simply doesn't work on big power ballads. I love her cover of Black And Gold (seriously, look it up if you haven't heard it) and think this is the type of songs she should be making, not doing vocal gymnastics and forcing her voice to places it can't quite reach naturally. On Firework especially, the verses are enunciated so weirdly and are almost talk singing. They sound flat and off-key. That coupled with a chorus that can sound like a foghorn at the worst of times can be a bad combination. Yes, she is a better singer acoustically, but that's because it's a very different type of singing. A lot of people try to prove their fave can sing by posting live peformances of ballads, but most people can sing ballads better because they're sitting/standing still.Dancing and any sort of movement will of course hinder vocal abilities. The best singers can do upbeat and down tempo equally well and I feel Katy only truly excels acoustically. Her live performances of upbeat songs are far too hit and miss for her to be taken seriously as a true vocalist.

Now, that's what I call constructive criticism! And thanks for the tip with the "Black and Gold" cover. It's really really amazing!!

Look, Katy isn't straight up bad at singing. I just don't like her voice. I don't like her yelling Firework at me. She doesn't have the kind of voice that I consider good vocals. Sure Jennifer Hudson and Christina Aguilera have technically good voices but that doesn't mean I want to hear them warble and scream in my ears.

lol your calling me childish, you keep quoting everyone here that disagree with the OP & call them "HATERS", how old are you? 11? Don't you know something called opinion? People has their reasons to not dislike her music, does that make them haters? no, it's not the type of music they like.
I know, you know, we know, that Katy isn't that good as a vocalist nor as a song writer so let's not lie to ourselves, okay?

"Top Notch Songwriting" he says about a song with lyrics like "Boom Boom Boom, even brighter than the moon moon moon" or "Do you ever feel like a plastic bag?"

What does Bonnie McKee do, then?

She had nothing to do with Firework.

She had nothing to do with Firework.

Yes but if Katy is such a brilliant songwriter, why does she need her? Bonnie has explained that she had what I would say is quite a large share of the writing in many Katy songs.
