Morphine Prince 109,653
A South Carolina woman’s new essay about being raised by her lesbian mom contains a surprising revelation: she opposes marriage equality.“Gay community, I am your daughter. My mom raised me with her same-s-x partner back in the ’80s and ’90s,” writes Heather Barwick, a 31-year-old mother of four, in The Federalist. “I’m writing to you because I’m letting myself out of the closet: I don’t support gay marriage. But it might not be for the reasons that you think. It’s not because you’re gay. I love you, so much. It’s because of the nature of the same-s-x relationship itself.”In her essay, she explains that when she was 2 or 3, her mother, who already knew that she was gay, left Barwick’s father to have a relationship with a woman. “Her partner treated me as if I was her own daughter,” she writes. “Along with my mom’s partner, I also inherited her tight-knit community of gay and lesbian friends.” Her father, meanwhile, “wasn’t a great guy,” and “didn’t bother coming around anymore.”As she grew up with her loving mom and stepmom, Barwick writes, her family taught her “how to be brave,” have “empathy,” “how to listen,” and “how to stand up for myself, even if that means I stand alone.” And for a while — into her 20s — that meant being an advocate for gay marriage. But now she’s had a change of heart.“Same-s-x marriage and parenting withholds either a mother or father from a child while telling him or her that it doesn’t matter. That it’s all the same. But it’s not,” she writes. “A lot of us, a lot of your kids, are hurting. My father’s absence created a huge hole in me, and I ached every day for a dad. I loved my mom’s partner, but another mom could never have replaced the father I lost.”Source: https://www.yahoo.com/parenting/daughter-of-two-moms-comes-out-against-gay-113987192687.html

Supersonic 49,376
But that's just her experience, fathers are not necessarily needed to raise children and not every kid raised by gay parents feels that way

boobtank 9,090
It sounds like the 'hole' in her life came from her bad relationship with her dad rather than the relationship with her moms... She may have had a different outlook if she didn't have a relationship with him in the first place because judging by her description he wasn't very nice. Supersonic 49,376
Also, what kind of a disrespect towards the people who gave her love her entire life. "Yeah, you sacrificed a whole lot for me, went through prejudice and raised me to be a decent human being but f*ck you anyway, you are not my biological father." I'd be ashamed if that was my daughter.

boobtank 9,090
So she's basically against gay marriage due to what happened between her mother and father...**** off sweetieThis is exactly what she's saying. She disapproves of her mother's relationship because of her father's **** ups. So if he wasn't in the equation it seems like she would have been a lot happier. chris777 112
The issue seems to be more about the relationship with her father than the lesbian couple.
