Bebe 17,289
I mean, would it even matter if people were not born into their s-xualities? Would it matter if it was purely environmental or would it matter if it was a choice? This whole conversation about whether or not s-xuality is chosen or what mixture of genetics/environment determines s-xuality is a distraction. Homos-xuality doesn't hurt anybody, I don't see any reason why it should be considered immoral. End of.
Bye 3,947
Because freedom of speech? I think that's what he was referring to and I agree with him. America's freedom of speech allows discrimination such as this billboard which would not be allowed in many European countries. Freedom of speech is a farce that protects assholes who can influence young minds with their hate and bias.
Goosey 3,017
America's freedom of speech allows discrimination such as this billboard which would not be allowed in many European countries. Freedom of speech is a farce that protects assholes who can influence young minds with their hate and bias. Many European countries don't have a fine tradition of freedom of speech. Lots of European countries are ex-communist / ex-dictatorships / ex-royalties, which were for hundreds of years ruled over their subjects even until very recently. So it's not a concern what is allowed in Europe, or Africa, or the Middle East, or Asia. As the great Noam Chomsky said on the subject of free speech: "it is precisely in the case of ideas found most offensive that these rights must be most vigorously defended" "I am the world's greatest person that does not want to let people into the country."—US President Donald J. Plus, they are allowed to "spew their bile" but that doesn't mean people don't have the right to protest against them also. "Restricted" freedom of speech isn't a thing in the US unless it involves some illegal action. You also can't run into a shopping center and yell "FIRE!" and not expect any consequences. People have a right to protest against them but what about young or even not young people who are more vulnerable. How does a religious kid who feels attraction towards the same s-x react with people telling him his God doesn't want him to be that way? Words are harmful and can even cause someone to turn to suicide as a means of escape. Is allowing people to voice their hate at the detriment of others' health so damn important? Words are harmful and can even cause someone to turn to suicide as a means of escape. Is allowing people to voice their hate at the detriment of others' health so damn important? Well, freedom of speech is important but you have to remember that what is labeled as "hate" changes over time. Only 60 years ago it was normal to be racist in the US and there are even pictures of people protesting saying "Stop racial mixing" during the Civil Rights Movement. Homos-xuality was considered a mental illness by the APA in 1952. "Hate" is a changing concept just as things that are considered acceptable. Ok, I went a bit off topic, but I would say for a lot of people voicing their opinion (which can be hateful) is important to them. I have no problem with "restricted" freedom of speech like in Europe because it solves the issue of what you brought up. I don't have issue with either form of freedom of speech. Homos-xuality doesn't hurt anybody, I don't see any reason why it should be considered immoral. End of. This is some premium tea you are serving sis I love the phrase "Born This Way" for all that it means, but at the end of the day when you think about it, it IS a distraction. It comes from a logical place of wanting acceptance though... Though most all LGBT people don't actively choose their s-xualities and are essentially "born" with it engrained in them, it shouldn't matter... But I think old activists were smart. Its much easier to appeal to a majority's sense of compassion and understanding when you basically change the argument. Its being redirected into one of "We can't help that we are this way --- its not fair or right for you to judge us/discriminate against us because of it" --- its solid logic and most people tend to agree with things when they are so black and white like that. Maybe in the future we can get to the point where "Born This Way" isnt a necessary phrase anymore, but I can totally 100% see why its necessary atm. It's like breaking down a ton of societal constructs for the entire "society" or explaining "White Privilege" to white people . Its incredibly unlikely they will embrace or accept what you are saying, but if you start small and maybe dumb down your argument, its possible they will begin to see the error of their ways Some people aren't on that level of thinking yet. Let's let them catch up 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから
