Australian paper the Courier-Mail ran the announcement but instead of a newborn baby, the picture was of a 19-year-old boy. Why? The parents of Kai Bogert, who was born in 1995 as Elizabeth Anne, but who recently underwent gender reassignment surgery, wanted to publicly demonstrate their acceptance of Kai, regardless of his gender. The proud parents joked that they were ‘mistaken’ when they announced the birth of their daughter in 1995, and wished to present their ‘wonderful son’ to the world. Although their acceptance and love of their son is clear, Kai’s parents couldn’t resist sticking one last joke into the piece, telling him to ‘tidy his room’.
