Economy 52,851
There is an argument to be made about whether the proper amount of force was used in the Michael Brown case, but this is undeniably ****ed up. Bring on the riots.yeah, it wasnt an easy situation with michael brown. Ppl dont take into account he did something wrong and was running away Force may have been eccessive yes. But he was hardly innocent This case is stupider tho cuz they had the man down and he was gasping and he still continued :fail:

heavyMetalGAGA 65
http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/volokh-conspiracy/wp/2014/12/05/dont-support-laws-you-are-not-willing-to-kill-to-enforce/ Yale Law School Professor Stephen Carter – a prominent left of center legal scholar – has an excellent column highlighting an important lesson of the recent tragic death of Eric Garner at the hands of a New York City police officer. Unlike the Michael Brown case in Ferguson, Missouri, where there was conflicting witness testimony, this killing was pretty obviously indefensible, and has been condemned by observers across the political spectrum. But, as Carter emphasizes, incidents like this are also a predictable consequence of the overextension of the regulatory state: On the opening day of law school, I always counsel my first-year students never to support a law they are not willing to kill to enforce. Usually they greet this advice with something between skepticism and puzzlement, until I remind them that the police go armed to enforce the will of the state, and if you resist, they might kill you. I wish this caution were only theoretical. It isn’t. Whatever your view on the refusal of a New York City grand jury to indict the police officer whose chokehold apparently led to the death of Eric Garner, it’s useful to remember the crime that Garner is alleged to have committed: He was selling individual cigarettes, or loosies, in violation of New York law….. The problem is actually broader. It’s not just cigarette tax laws that can lead to the death of those the police seek to arrest. It’s every law. Libertarians argue that we have far too many laws, and the Garner case offers evidence that they’re right. I often tell my students that there will never be a perfect technology of law enforcement, and therefore it is unavoidable that there will be situations where police err on the side of too much violence rather than too little. Better training won’t lead to perfection. But fewer laws would mean fewer opportunities for official violence to get out of hand. As Carter points out later in his article, the scope of government regulation has grown so great that the vast majority of Americans have violated criminal law at one time or another. This sad state of affairs multiplies the opportunities for dangerous interactions between police and civilians, and virtually guarantees that abuses like this will recur. Interesting perspective for sure. It's too bad that we have too many laws and we can't just rely on trusting one another. By the way, what subject do you teach? Are you a college professor? MahoganySnitch 67
I don't even know where to begin. I don't even know where to begin. I don't even know where to begin. I don't even know where to begin. So, are you justifying the actions done by the officers to Garner? Your whole argument right here reeks "you reap what you sow." And in this case, Garner's death could have completely been avoided by Police. If you're trying to justify their actions by saying a lot of Black men inflame situations with Police by getting physical therefore Garner's death is excusable, then I need you to re-read everything you're reading and seeing about the Garner situation. Though I do not agree with the Ferguson decision, if you said this about Michael Brown, you would have more of an argument. But the whole incident was caught on camera, and the man clearly cries for help and not being able to breathe. He had breathing issues. He wasn't necessarily in shape, and the fact that his death was officially labeled a Homicide, it was caught on tape, and there was still no indictment tells you the condition of the system America is in. He was not some wild cow that needed branding. He was a human being that was wrongfully killed. And to say "that are doing somthing illegal or have done something illegal," you can use this against every single person. Why is James Holmes still alive? He shot up a movie theater full of innocent people, yet Eric Garner was, what? Selling illegal untaxed cigarettes? Whoa, now... that's worth being killed. Much worse than killing people in movie theaters. IKR? I don't understand that original post...like, what? The demonization is what really sets me off. People passing off pictures of Black youth with gun and cash in hand as Brown/Garner/Rice/etc., as if it was justifiable. It's interesting that some stress these peoples' lack of innocence (Trayvon flipping off a webcam, etc.) when talks about some recent school shooters stress how innocent they were (he was so nice, straight A's, etc.). Hmm. That user insinuates that people reap what they sow, but that's assuming everyone reaps. Certainly not the "Affluenza" kid.
