Just keep these things in mind. You're absolutely right. Being classed as legal is different than being classed as a citizen. It does, however, provide a 3 year window of legalization that can relieve pressures and allow a smoother transition into the normal citizenship proceedings. As for it being taken away-- everything is a gavel slam away from being changed. This is certainly no different. Nick1495 991 Posted November 21, 2014 Share Posted November 21, 2014 I live in South Florida and am a proud Hispanic American. I was born here in the US, so I was lucky to have my citizenship. I have met so many great and amazing people here and it made me so sad that they had to live in fear of being persecuted for being an illegal immigrant. I am so happy by tonight's executive action because it means that my family's friends, basically our extended family, can begin the process of full citizenship. They have been working here for nearly 10 years, paid their taxes, and contributed to the greater good of our community. He basically had to negotiate so that they receive legal protection and what not, but they do not currently qualify for government-aided subsidies like Obama Care, so these people are currently kind of without gov. healthcare (which is good or bad depending on the families situation). That problems going to need to be fixed Still, a great step tbh. Obama is kind of the guy to do the "right" thing, even when he knows people will hate it just because its HIM doing it and I kind of respect the hell out of it And because every President becomes legacy obsessed in the final term. This is a bold move that could keep him in the history books. I can't prove it, but I'm sure his potential legacy in the eyes of a group of people that will only continue to grow over time weighs on him and gives him extra ball-heft in making a decision like this. It's something that gives these illegal immigrants legal permission to work and defers them from being deported in the next two years. I am only saying that it provides relief-- meaning that a person doesn't have to live in fear, over the course of 3 years (if they qualify), while getting their citizenship which will follow the existing guidelines and still takes forever. In 2003 the Supreme Court ruled in Lawrence vs. Texas that sodomy was not a crime, before that ruling states like Texas arrested gay men who engaged in consensual a--l or oral s-x. If you were a man having s-x with another man in the state of Texas you were violating state law. Sexually active gay men were criminals who faced fines and even jail time. I'm sure there were heteros-xuals in the state of Texas who read about the arrests of gay men in their local news paper and thought…"they shouldn't have had s-x illegally then they are criminals" It's absolutely ok to disapprove of Obama's decision, but to shrug off the dismantling of millions of immigrant families over a law is so gross and heartless. In fact, he has never traveled outside his province in Canada. His world view and understanding of people outside his narrow world is extremely limited.
