Runway 27,876
I'm not saying whether or not I believe anything is better or not than Thriller. But...why is Thriller the high bar that we compare everything else to? It's a classic song, but as a song, it's not much? The video, sure. But the song as just a song shouldn't be something we all look up to. Every artist has their Thriller. Thriller is an album, mess Cool for her tho

shaneybaby 450
Why? Because it slayed on charts? Bye This! I love gaga but Thriller and ARTPOP aren't comparable albums :( Thriller has Billie Jean, Beat It, Thriller, Wanna be Startin Somethin, etc. It had 7 singles! out of only like 9 songs!!! I respect you defending Gaga, but be realistic. Thats the best album of all time filled with hits that will be forever played. I hear half of those songs on the radio more than I do Applause or G.U.Y. or DWUW. Its just a fact not an opinion.

djBuffoon 12,031
I like 1989 just fine, but the extent to which people are licking this album's ***..... Musically, ARTPOP is 1000 times better than both Thriller and 1989. Thriller, no. 1989, yes.
Whispering 18,865
I'm not saying whether or not I believe anything is better or not than Thriller. But...why is Thriller the high bar that we compare everything else to? It's a classic song, but as a song, it's not much? The video, sure. But the song as just a song shouldn't be something we all look up to. Every artist has their Thriller. It is referring to the album. No, every artist does not "have a Thriller"- not an album or a song of that nature. ------------------------------------------ Of the album's nine tracks, seven singles were released from the album, all of which reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. In just over a year, Thriller becameâ€â€and currently remainsâ€â€the best-selling album of all time, with sales of 65 million copies worldwide. In the United States, it also tied with the Eagles' Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975) as the best-selling album at 29 million units shipped. The album won a record-breaking eight Grammy Awards in 1984, including for Album of the Year. Thriller enabled Jackson to break down racial barriers in pop music via his appearances on MTV and meeting with President of the United States Ronald Reagan at the White House. The album was one of the first to use music videos as successful promotional toolsâ€â€the videos for "Thriller", "Billie Jean", and "Beat It" all received regular rotation on MTV. In 2001, a special edition issue of the album was released, which contains additional audio interviews, demo recordings and the song "Someone in the Dark", which was a Grammy-winning track from the E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial storybook. In 2008, the album was reissued again as Thriller 25, containing re-mixes that feature contemporary artists, a previously unreleased song, and a DVD, which features the short films from the album and the Motown 25 performance of "Billie Jean". Thriller was listed by the National Association of Recording Merchandisers at number three in its "Definitive 200" albums of all time. The Thriller album was included in the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry of culturally significant recordings, and the Thriller video was included in the National Film Preservation Board's National Film Registry of "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant films". ------------------------------------------------ These facts alone begin to explain why this comparison is not only ridiculous, but downright laughable at this point! SISTERV 3,887
This is the most overrated piece of crap fangirling article in years....Taylor Swift's new album is not the closest thing to Thriller in years. It's had one big hit so far and maybe 800k in sales and now it's Thriller? Thriller's Stats: CONSERVATIVE ESTIMATES: 65 Million Copies WW ESTIMATES: Around 110 Million Copies First year stats: 35 million copies And for the record the ONLY artists that have come out since the year 2000 to sell over 20 million copies of an album are: Norah Jones, Eminem, Linkin Park, Adele, and Lady Gaga The only artists that have debuted in the past TWO DECADES to sell over 30 million copies WW are: Adele, Lady Gaga, Allanis Morrisette, and Nirvana This business of an album selling (potentially) 1 million copies in a week is horse **** compared to what some artists have accomplished. Remember, at Taylor's best, her numbers are only half at Gaga's best. Thank you. Bye.
