Daenerys 6,033
To me it sounds like Gaga is saying that if she were as "established" as Madonna (being a successful pop artist who has been around for a long time), she would spend her time encouraging the upcoming artists, rather than tearing them down. This is what Madonna did to Gaga and it sucks that Gaga was treated that way. Mills 446
The namedrop was unnecessary (and even more the added remark which is not that relevant to the question), BUT so do some of the hostile reactions that not-so-surprising statement is getting at the moment online. Either way, there's nothing serious or condemnable with what she has replied. Gaga is not pressed with that statement. And neither should Madonna be or her fans. Lassex 1,169
Umm... I don't get how having no soul and not helping new artists are connected to each other. Anyway, I get what Gaga is saying, but if they are asking about her musical influences then Madonna's personality would have nothing to do with it. CroatiaGeisha 19
It's kind of uncharacteristic how she mentions madonna so randomly, i wonder if the magazine first asked about her and then tacked that response to the previous answer? They've been known to pull **** like that before... But anyways, here's my grand theory on what happened 1. Gaga releases Born This Way, without really considering or even realizing its similarities to Express Yourself 2. Gaga receives "ripoff" backlash. Assumes that Madonna would be understanding because she can probably relate to such controversies, and they have an amicable relationship anyways. 3. Gaga lies to the media and says Madonna okayed the song to cease the ripoff chatter and get people to focus on the Born This Way message, assumes Madonna will have her back 4. Madonna gets angry that Gaga spoke on her behalf without permission, and instead of personally confronting Gaga to work out the issue, she releases a statement that she was ever in contact with Gaga 5. Madonna uses the situation to stir even more buzz for herself by mocking Gaga on her tour (there's no way around this one guys, sorry), doesn't really care about what kind of a reaction she gets ^In that case, they're both at fault. Gaga might have felt entitled to Madonna's support and Madonna overreacted by dragging Gaga's name and work through the mud. I have to be honest and say this feud was always super interesting to me- hate when it's used in stan wars though, I'm just here for the story.
craig 680
she could easily just have left madonnas name out of this. stop the drama, start the music But Madonsters would still see that as a slight by omission, because she used to mention her as an influence. Gaga just filled in what any insightful reader would - that M was an influence, but let her down.

Anderson123 36,506
You see, I still can't hear the reason for all the comparisons. They sound nothing alike to me, and I'm being quite honest about it. To me, I Like It Rough sounds a lot more like Some Girls, and Gaga never said anything about it. Express Yourself and Born This Way sound similiar because they have the same structure and some of the rhythm. I can't say Gaga and the people involved in that room knew it sounded like that, or maybe were inspired by it, who knows. I don't think so, but back when The Fame Monster was about to get released, we got two songs, Alejandro and Dance In The Dark. The first time I listened to Dance In The Dark there was a part there that I said "Wow.. Vogue", the naming and all that, then I listened to Alejandro and though "It kind of sounds like La Isla Bonita, ABBA and Ace of Base". Gaga gets inspired by so many artists and she has said it herself, but sometimes the inspiration is placed on the music and you can tell by that just by listening to it. Who knows if she wanted Born This Way to sound like that, becuase as far as we know, the song went through so many transformations, and maybe it was an accident that it ended up sounding like that.
