I live in a really small town in the south and we have been experiencing A LOT of growth in the community. Economy 52,951 Posted October 10, 2014 Author Share Posted October 10, 2014 yeah this is because most people stopped searching for jobs because there are still none out there, the uemployment rate isn't really a great indicator because once u give up looking for a job you aren't counted in the unemployment rate. the labor force participation rate has dropped a lot and as ive pointed out often, thats an issue. if a smaller percentage of the population is working, then the economies full capacity isnt as great when you reach "full employment" Some of it is ppl giving up looking for work, but some of it is ppl retiring as well as people staying in school longer now-a-days This sucks because when the US reaches full employment (considered to be when unemployment is around 4%), the economy wont be as strong and as productive as what it was before when unemployment was 4% Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
