I know that economically not even close. Canadian Provinces account for a much larger percentage of Canadas taxes and spending than US States do...

Here in Canada our federal income taxes, corporate taxes, investment taxes etc are all lower than in the US. But the Provincial income taxes, Corporate taxes etc are all higher than US States. Provinces have way much impact in economic matters than the US

And when u look at US State regulations and Provincial regulations i dont know that the US states do

In terms of rules and regulations from just about everything, Theres way more Provincial laws than Federal laws

Canada started with Provinces but over time they have grown to have iust as much power as States and economically maybe even more. But we still call them Provinces because originally thats how Canada was created :shrug:

Also, the new generation if Quebec doesnt seem to care as much for Quebec sovereinghty as the older generation did

The last referendum we had some time ago 49% voted for seperation but recently the polls show only a 40% support rate for seperation from Quebeckers

Unitary states like the UK have regional inequality too. And Canada has equalization payments between provinces.

 

If u wanna function as a nation you cant have each part of the Country doing its own thing.

 

 

I don't see how Quebec having it's own immigration policy, Ontario it's own pension plan, or every province setting it's own tuition fees, hurts anyone. It actually promotes harmony.

For instance with retirement... How does the Government come up with a proper standard for retirement if some Provinces make their own and some dont?

If they raise it, Provinces that already have their own will contribute too much, Provinces that havent if they lower it, it will be too little

Also the equalization payments are pretty insignificant. They provide a slight financial assistance of not that much significance. Economically very little
