Florida Officials Appeal Rulings Overturning Gay Marriage Ban

Florida officials are appealing several rulings overturning the state's ban on gay marriage.

Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a motion filed late Friday that her agency is joining the appeals to promote an orderly and consistent resolution. Bondi's motion comes after several judges around the state have recently overturned Florida's ban on same-s-x marriage.

The motion argues the sole legal issue in the case is the constitutional validity of the state ban and any changes should come from voters, not the courts. Florida voters approved the ban in 2008.

The Florida Supreme Court recently declined an appellate court's request to consider the constitutionality of the state's gay marriage ban.

Bondi has asked has asked judges to stop ruling on same-s-x marriage cases until the U.S. Supreme Court decides whether states can ban gay marriage.

A number of similar rulings around the country have been put on hold while appeals are pursued.

Okay, so from my understanding basically judges have been overturning the gay marriage ban and (I assume) marrying gay couples. What legislation is wanting is for the judges to stop overturning the gay marriage ban and wait for the Supreme Court to decide if states can decide on whether gay marriage is legal or illegal.

The majority of the Supreme Court is conservative and they can't support it, but they also know there is no legal principle that they can stand behind to ban it. So they're just avoiding it altogether.

This is just a delay tactic to prevent legalized gay marriage from spreading by forcing the states to wait until the Justices can convene and issue a ruling on it.

This is a load of crap because I live in Florida and the elections are coming up, so the politicians are trying to circumvent the issue so they don't lose votes. :awkney:
