codymonster 8,595
It's all irrelevant to me. This is what the GP and the media thinks, and I could care less. The media will love you for a couple years, then hate you for a couple more. Ya, Katy is doing well, but when the GP let's her go, she'll have nothing to hold on to. Gaga on the other hand will remain relevant and powerful because even if the media hates her, she'll still bust out powerhouse vocals, release jazz albums with legends, release intelligent but fun pop music, and create with boundless freedom because unlike Katy, SHE is the artist. MahoTheMnstr 141
This is my beef with Katy Perry. I'd be all here for her success if she was actually doing something great to deserve greatness. Instead she's taking ideas and watering them down into harmless, pretty visuals that say absolutely nothing. She IS the perfect pop star, but I'm beginning to see that pop was never something I should be wasting my time with. Pop, by definition, caters to the masses. It follows the masses. It never brings anything to the table except beauty and s-x. Gaga tried to make it interesting, but the public is just too damn basic. She can't go even slightly unconventional without the world yapping about how she's the devil.
Prometheus 1,494
I remember when lady gaga was the only one doing edm influenced pop music.. and wearing crazy dark, fierce fashion.. then suddenly everyone started doing it..... and gaga took a break.. and it became a norm.. ARTPOP was Gaga's first EDM influenced album.
vrx 0
ARTPOP was Gaga's first EDM influenced album. TF, TFM, and BTW were all Eurohouse, Europop, and Eurodance influenced, which influenced modern EDM It really wasn't

Prometheus 1,494
It's really not that hard to see though Honey, EDM encompasses many genres. What many call EDM is actually complextro or a variant thereof.
leoj 2
No.. No.. some of you don't get it..... the only way the media will turn on you.. or the GP will turn on you, is if you do something they don't instantly relate to or do something that is under the standards you set up for them..... katy perry was known as a horrible live act... but when you youtube her live.. you get one video with one of out of 1000 performances of her singing well.. enough to be considered a good live singer (TOTGA SITTING ON STOOL WHILE ON A GUITAR).. as opposed to her other live performances.. her label is the smartest label in music history, they did manage the beatles back in the day.. KATY PERRY was going to release a dark... album (TFM/BTW style) her label put a complete halt to that... and made her release teenage dream 2.0.. E.T is basically dark horse.. Roar is basically firework.. Birthday is basically LFN.. she is sticking to a perfect pop girl formula.. HAD BRITNEY SPEARS NOT FALLEN OFF TRACK WITH HER TANTRUM, AND HERSELF.. she would have lasted as a top pop girl.. same with AGUILERA.. gaga did take a HUGE risk with Born this way.. and she knew she did.. it sold well.. but fell off after JUDAS started getting tranction.. Honestly she has released songs that are too risky.. while sounding radio friendly.. and I feel the alejandro video was the beginning of all that.. when she swallowed a rosery.. Alejando religious imagery Judas brought it back to the already iffy GP then she kinda did it again with MARRY THE NIGHT being a song about not giving up on your life(suicide to the GP) and then she started doing ok with applause.. and killed it by releasing a song about rape to the GP DWUW.. katy perry is sticking to teenage references.. and safe lyrics.. she is not taking asingle risk IF YOU DON'T TAKE RISKS, AND CONTINUE TO SELL A WINNING FORMULA, WHILE THE COMPETITION TAKES RISKS AND DOES NOT RUN AWAY WITH IT, YOU WILL CONTINUE TO DOMINATE A MARKET
leoj 2
Honey, EDM encompasses many genres. What many call EDM is actually complextro or a variant thereof. Just dance is a dance pop song.. so is pokerface.. they are both electronic dance songs.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfRxsCjHrAg released in 2008

However, I thought the user was referencing the subgenre Gaga uses on ARTPOP (Swine, Donatella, G.U.Y.) because many people think of complextro and similar genres to be true EDM, which is what is used on ARTPOP.
