Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation interviewed Palestinian poet and activist Ahmed Sarsour. Ahmed shares that art connects humanity across languages and borders—even amidst conflict and unimaginable loss. The conversation is part of the article "Poetry Is an Art of Resistance," published by the artist's foundation. The Palestinian activist and poet thanked Lady Gaga on social media: "So happy to speak with the Born This Way Foundation about art, resistance, and joy. Very grateful for the invitation from Lady Gaga and Cynthia Germanotta. Occupying spaces changes lives, and society can move forward in a better way." https://x.com/gagasourcelgs/status/209991807683360388716 points

With everything that has happened over the last 48 hours, I want to bring the conversation back to where it belongs: to the Palestinian people who are still being killed, still living under military occupation, and still fighting for their freedom. I will be donating the entire $1 million of my net earnings from Ed Sheeran's Loop Tour to six organizations working directly to support the Palestinian people. And I invite Robert Kraft to match my donation. Whatever we disagree about, perhaps we can agree on this: Palestinian lives are worth protecting. A Palestinian life is no less valuable than any other life on this earth. That is what this has always been about. Not me. Not a tour. Not the headlines or the controversy. It is about Palestinians right to freedom, dignity and safety in their own homeland.16 points

I dont think MTV/VMAs are seeking to get a big gen Z audience. They aint ever gonna suddenly start watching, even gen Z pop girls didn't help. They've gone for the core vote strategy. Millenial gays.15 points

I see "too bad she's a raging zionist" in ALL the TikTok comments. And what makes me angry about that is that it's a reflection of the world we live in currently. Performative social justice warriors who just regurgitate something they've read in another comment section, more so for their own self gain and self righteousness than to actually make a difference. People being angry and hateful with nothing to back it up because they enjoy it for some reason. I guess because it's more exciting than reality. Because they get to pat themselves on the back, without actually doing anything of substance. With no regard for the people whose names they're smearing. Insanity12 points

"I choose to use my fame and platform to be a place of safety and sanctuary, to maintain diplomacy and keep conversations open, not closed" You mean by allowing Macklemore to be kicked out for his free speech? Stopping him from voicing his support is keeping conversations open?11 points

Basically this. It was to have justice served, because, as much as people may not like her they did basically have her scared for her life. I remember seeing her talk about it on KUWTK and it sounded terrifying. Like she was prepared for them to SA her and for her sister to find her dead. The money is more symbolic I suppose.10 points

I’ve genuinely never understood the pro-Israel theory about Gaga. What, she did a concert there in 2014 and said it’s a lovely country in an interview with local media, how is that in any way supportive of Israel’s current politics? There’s a thriving gay community in Tel Aviv, it’s not exactly a big shock that she’d perform there. But change my mind.10 points

I find it really interesting how Palestine has been reduced to nothing more than a token in stan wars. At the end of the day, the people who spend their time policing and demanding emojis, likes, and posts from artists (as if Instagram stories are going to solve geopolitics) don’t actually care about the refugees, the families torn apart, or the irreparable losses caused by war. They don’t genuinely care about the Palestinian people. It’s purely performative, a way to farm likes and views on X, a platform owned by Elon Musk, which makes the hypocrisy of it all even more glaring.9 points

How is she on the wrong side of history? You’re acting like she’s a full fledged Zionist who openly supports Israel. It’s a baseless accusation which isn’t going to “ruin her legacy” because some idiots online jump on any negative rumor about her.8 points

No if she doesn’t release something next month I’m unstanning. It’s so selfish of her to make us wait this long for LG8 and then instead she goes and has a baby?????????????? Like she doesn’t care about music anymore????8 points

I don’t think people realize how big of a deal this is. We have literal billionaires and owners of stadiums silencing artists because they don’t agree with their politics, which is going to set a very messy precedent going forward. I understand not having someone who advocates for hate but Macklemore’s speech was clearly not hostile to Jews, he made that very clear, and he was speaking up about a genocide. We aren't angry enough about how this incident is showing the rapid decline of free speech at the control of the rich.8 points

There was never any question that she supports peace at the very least. It's very much like her to decide to platform a Palestinian artist rather than directly come out and say "I believe ___". I had conceded this issue as kinda lost with her tbh not that she's a full on Zionist or anything, just that she would never touch the issue with a 10ft pole. I'm ok with this8 points

Earlier this month she kicked off the US leg of the tour with a giant show at Madison Square Garden. The rest of the tour was initially also supposed to take place in several arenas across the country, but in July, she moved several shows to smaller venues and cancelled a planned Montreal date. Some dates went ahead as usual with no venue changes, however the show in Chicago – originally set for the 23,500-capacity United Center – was instead held at the 3,500-capacity Chicago Theatre. Other shows in Los Angeles and San Francisco were also downsized. Allen has opened up about the decision to switch the venues. Speaking in a new interview with The Cut, the singer explained: “The ticket sales weren’t there.” She went on to say: “I think people sometimes have a misconception about artist greed. And, you know, maybe there are artists who are greedy, but let me tell you a little bit about the mechanics of how these things work: I don’t call up MSG and all of these other venues and say, ‘I’d like to book these dates, please. Thank you very much. I think I can fill these arenas.’ The company’s own promoters have data machines that tell them whether they’re going to be able to sell these tickets. “And they offer artists a certain amount of money and tell them, ‘We would like to put on these events, and we think that we can sell out tickets. And would you like to oblige?'” she continued. Allen added that she felt “uneasy” about the tour from the beginning. “I said to my manager, ‘Are you sure? This seems like a stretch.’ And he was like, ‘This is what they’re telling me.’ So we accepted it,” she added. “As time went on, it just looked like it wasn’t gonna happen. And we could’ve cancelled all of the shows. But I have a crew of about 50 people who all thought they’d be working through October. And I didn’t want to tell them all that they weren’t going to have work,” she continued. “Our other option was to ask the promoters if there were any other available venues that were more suited to the demand.” Allen then explained: “I think the live industry is a minefield, and I don’t know how it works. I’ve gotten messages from people on the day of a ‘sold out’ gig saying, ‘I got a ticket for $22 today.’ So obviously a bunch of tickets are released last minute, but on our end, we’re told those tickets were sold out the day they went on sale. I don’t know what the **** is going on. Someone knows, but it ain’t the artist.” https://www.nme.com/news/music/lily-allen-on-downsizing-venues-for-her-west-end-girl-us-tour-3969055 https://www.thecut.com/article/lily-allen-west-end-girl-tour-divorce-album.html7 points

Well at least we know it wasn’t him personally, but he should get rid of whatever random person also has access to the account. Because they aren’t helping his cause by accusing her of Zionism, arguing with her fans and calling them all racists for replying to whoever made the hypocritical reply in the first place6 points

I’m gonna be honest with regards to this I don’t think she gives a **** in terms of what’s best for her career or cultural influence or accessing audiences. She’s just had her first baby and it’s something she’s wanted forever, it’s a dream come true for her. She may release something, she may not, but I doubt she’s thinking about her life right now in terms of chart success.5 points
