As of today’s Spotify update, and even a bit earlier than expected, Lady Gaga’s Bruno Mars assisted Die With A Smile surpassed Billie Eillish’s Birds of a Feather. DWAS: 3,967,217,178 (+1.8M/day) BOAF: 3,967,057,865 (1.2M/day) This means Gaga has the biggest streaming song with a woman on it of all time. Honestly a major accomplishment for an artist who, at the beginning of streaming, was often said to have a problem with crossing over into the streaming era. *This also means Gaga will be the first woman to surpass the 4B mark on a song in the coming weeks. Side note: *This song also pushed Mayhem up a bit. Without DWAS, Mayhem performed almost equally as Beyoncé’s Renaissance. With DWAS it pushes Mayhem into one of the most (and going upward) streamed albums of this decade already. A unique benchmark was set here too that often doesn’t get noted: This makes Lady Gaga the ONLY artist to have an album in 3 different decades in each decades Top 40 Most-Streamed Albums. The Fame Monster is the highest streamed album of the 2000s, period. A Star is Born soundtrack is #34 of the 2010s. And MAYHEM now sits at #40 of the 2020s. With current projections of growth, MAYHEM will probably rise to around #20-#25 by the end of 2027. Gaga has become comfortably one of the Top Ten Streaming Forces of the era. She also is relatively unique compared to her millennial contemporaries. Where Katy has most of her streaming numbers from earlier 10+ year old songs, Beyonce has most of her high streaming numbers from later songs and not very many billion-club songs, and Taylor has her highest numbers from 2015 and onward, Gaga’s numbers are more diverse and come from an array of different “re-peaks” in her career. She has multiple billion-status streamed songs from her original debut eras, then a jump again as she dipped into acting, and then another mid 2020s jump from her (satisfying) reheat of her nachos with Mayhem that struck a chord with both old fans and younger Gen Z and Gen Alpha audiences. Perhaps this comes from Gaga stepping into (successfully) multiple arenas of entertainment that made her iconography more present even amongst younger people who didn’t know every single but appreciate her lore.11 points

Not as ridiculous as Sabrina Carpenter getting nominated for New Artist with 6 albums out.9 points

She/they also could've accepted that she simply wasn't a new artist and thus not eligible9 points

It's clear that DWAS was added after it became a hit. And it still makes up like 60% of Mayhem's streams so, commercially, that was the right move. But I still say putting a Bruno Mars standalone single on her album for the sake of streams was really the first time I was disappointed in her as an artist Had it gone on the deluxe with CSTH, TDD, and KFL? No problem. But the standard? Just 'cause it was a hit? No And I'm entitled to still holding that dramatic opinion that nobody cares about or has to care about Besides, it makes literally no sense to release and promote Disease as the lead if she had already decided to put DWAS on the album by that point. Disease would have been the second single. But it wasn't8 points

the metadata of DWAS multitrack shows that it was mastered in July, the album was sent to pressing fir the vinyls before DWAS was released. Adding DWAS last minute would mean delaying the album release by at least 2 months or releasing the vinyls without it7 points

I hate when press or fans are talking about female artists intimacy and pregnancy stuff. They are not a womb standing on legs. Be serious I guess tabloids are pressed as **** she made them impossible to know a single thing about her wedding tho6 points

It’s obviously there to boost sales. And that’s fine. I don’t think it’s sellout behavior. It’s her song that was already out anyways. People forget that music as a career is a business like everything else and requires business moves in order to maintain high budgets for things like videos and tours. It’s her job. So I don’t really care.6 points

I used to be in the ‘she added it last minute’ camp, but I’ve shifted more to the ‘who cares, get your coin gorl’ mentality and here’s why: 1. She released DWAS well within the album lifespan. It’s not like it was released super outside of the lifecycle of MAYHEM so it should count. Why can Chappell Roan get to release her initial singles over the course of years before compiling them for her debut album, but Ms. Gags can’t include her hella successful chart topper from 7 months prior on her latest album? That isn’t a slight on Chappell, but just a weird double standard 2. It fits MAYHEM both sonically and thematically. It’s an album all about darkness and death. Why are we trying to act like Die With a Smile doesn’t belong here? 3. The main confusion lies in what Gaga said in terms of whether Disease was the first single or not. I don’t think what Gaga said really matters. The album is called MAYHEM for a reason and I don’t think Gaga is going to explicitly tell us, the fans, all the chaotic things that the album embodies including confusion over the choice of singles. That became clear to me when she didn’t choose VIY as the final single, but went with TDD instead. This overall “controversy” of whether DWAS belongs on MAYHEM and/or if it’s the first single or not feeds into the MAYHEM and it’s so harmless, that Gaga probs enjoys it.6 points

The grainy polaroid pictures marked the first time Lady Gaga had been seen in four months. Before the uncaptioned film snaps landed on Instagram in late August, the 40-year-old megastar had all but disappeared from the public eye, having wrapped her blockbuster Mayhem Ball world tour in April. The Daily Mail has learned that the Bad Romance singer is laying low in Marin County, California, nesting in her new $10 million mansion with fiancé Michael Polansky. But so secretive has she been about her whereabouts that even her inner circle has been left in the dark, according to one source close to the singer who says friends have not heard from her in weeks. 'No one has seen her or heard from her in over a month,' the insider said. 'Everyone in her circle thinks she eloped with Michael and is on her honeymoon now, trying to make a baby.'5 points

Daily Mail is a proper rag so who knows how much of this is true but if it is, I’m sure her family are aware as well as any good friends worth their salt. Anyone telling the daily mail about her personal life either isn’t a close friend or doesn’t deserve to be a close friend5 points

I hope for a new album by 2028 at the lateeeest. She is on such a new career peak, comercially and creatively, she should not waste that phase by waiting for too long.5 points

I really do think that Slayyyter is probably one of the more interesting (American) pop stars we have at the moment. WGIA dropping amidst the backdrop of a turbulent America and the tension within the album explored via the themes of rebellion, oblivion, consumption, desolation, makes it, I think, an album/project that will be seen as a distillation of what America was like in the 2020s. Not necessarily a time capsule per se (as most Trump-reactionary art has aged horribly), but a testament (or pop bible, if you will) about the general American malaise and meltdown at the quarter of the century.5 points

Is there any chance Happy Mistake might have been for Mayhem originally? If that replaced BOG it would have made the album even greater and just feels like it fits the tone better, plus broken mirrors5 points

I mean, I personally think it's an interesting way to capitalize off the hype and success of WGIA and reinterpret the themes, imagery, and sound off the album. For example, turning brand new chanel$ into an anthem about being cheated on also adds a new layer and changes the thematic meaning and imagery of BEAT UP CHANEL$. Lazy would just be to create and outsource a remix album using unaltered vocals, lyrics, and/or delivery to collaborators you've never met.4 points

We don’t really know because before Disease even came out based on the leaked multitracks metadata it showed most of the album was mastered not long after DWAS was released but before it became a hit. Based on Gaga’s track record of how her album track lists change though it could possibly have been added before they sent the final album off to press. I mean for BTW they had a track list and a mastered standard edition prepared by the time she shot the second album cover (the original shoot happened earlier in 2010 and has never leaked). A lot of the final tracks from even the standard version weren’t on that version, some had different names (like HURTL being simply called Road to Love) and some of the deluxe tracks like Black Jesus (called Amen Fashion) were on that track list.4 points
