  1. Rosalía found herself at the center of controversy in Argentina after sharing a TikTok video of Mia Khalifa celebrating Spain’s victory over Argentina. Many fans felt offended, called for her to be declared persona non grata, and began trying to return their tickets for her show in Argentina on Aug. 1. In the since-deleted Story that’s still available on Khalifa’s Instagram account, the Lebanese-American influencer is lip-synching to Rosalía’s “La Perla,” a song that describes a toxic and narcissistic ex. “How life sounds now that the perlas have been defeated,” Khalifa, who publicly rooted for Spain during the World Cup, wrote in the clip. Rosalía — who’s set to take her LUX World Tour to Buenos Aires’ Movistar Arena on Aug. 1 — offered an apology. “I shared it because ‘La Perla’ was playing and I didn’t even read what it said. My bad, I’m sorry,” the artist shared in her first Instagram Story, which featured Argentina’s flag, on Wednesday (Aug. 22). She added in the second: “I only have love for Argentina.” Rosalía’s mea culpa comes after a wave of Argentine fans flooded her comments on social media, saying that they were going to return the tickets or not attend her upcoming concert in the South American country. “The apology came 24 hours late. I don’t think it’s valid,” wrote one user. “If there is no respect for my country, there is no audience for these artists.” Another added, “Argentina neither forgets nor forgives.” https://www.billboard.com/music/latin/rosalia-apologizes-argentine-fans-spain-world-cup-win-1236300678/

  4. She's Spanish, and Spain won... Maybe now is time to stop being a bad sport. It wasn't cute on the field, and it's not cute either a week later.

  5. I love these songs individually, especially Wonderful But THANK GOD, that didn’t happen. I know she suffered from being dropped by Def Jam, but it really was for the best. The Fame has a FIRE. A fire that’s started it all.

  8. No te confundas, hermano latinoamericano.

  14. Why do you always act like commercial success is the be all end all? By that metric, Taylor Swift is the greatest artist to ever live and McDonald’s is the greatest restaurant on Earth we all know that ain’t true lmao. Idgaf how it performed commercially, I form my own opinions based on my own preferences and evaluation of more objective criteria andI think FN is a fairly middle of the road nu disco/synth pop revival record. Wasn’t even the best record in that vein to come out *that year* (which would be Jessie Ware’s What’s Your Pleasure, which is a far more emotionally dynamic and compositionally interesting record with far better vocals). Dua’s voice is *fine*, but imo Charli has more expressive range as a vocalist, whereas Dua’s delivery is generally emotionally flat and vacant. Have never once felt anything listening to a Dula Peep track.

  16. Right. So Iran is currently stuck between 2 genocidal quasi dictatorships warring over the natural resource value of the land the iranian people live on. With ongoing bombings being conducted against the region. And the white gen z american left is *checks notes* Complaining about Zendaya wearing earings.

  21. Maybe some people should do the same as a lot of football players did over the last weeks: touch some grass. If they want to be offended, they will find a reason, no matter what everyone else is saying or doing.

  23. Zendaya faces backlash after wearing 3,000-year-old Glenn Spiro (Sienna Spiro's father) earrings at 'The Odyssey' London photocall. While many thought this was a fun Mediterranean motif, the earrings were later revealed to be genuine historical artefacts dating back 3,000 years to Iran. Fans were first clued in when Harper’s Bazaar listed the earrings as a pair “from Barron London, constructed from 1st-millennium BC ancient discs.” The Barron London website in turn says the jewellery is from Glenn Spiro’s collection. Spiro owns a very private and exclusive jewellery house for the uber wealthy. The gold pieces are described as “a pair of Ziwiye gold medallion plaques, circa 1st millennium BC, Iran. Mounted by Glenn Spiro with diamonds in yellow gold” on the website. The discs, which were turned into earrings by Spiro, are believed to be a part of the Ziwiye hoard, alongside a number of other artefacts that were found uncovered in a plot of land outside of Ziwiyeh Castle, near the city of Saqqez in Kurdistan province, Iran, in 1947. An Instagram creator by the handle @dr_archaeology pointed out the murkiness around the way the artefact was sourced. She claimed the pieces were “likely looted from Iran” and are “gracing the ears of an American actress from a country that just bombed Iran.” “Let’s be real, the point of these earrings is not to showcase legitimate ancient artistry, it is to fetishise the past, to be a commodity, stolen from the elite … this is about class signalling,” she continued in the video, which has sparked debate. x

  25. That‘s wilde … I went to both of the first MSG shows, and never thought about it in that way, but it‘s an astute observation … in immediate retrospect, my logic for going to both of those specific shows were “I should probably go to her first show at the Garden,” and, “I should probably go to her first HBO filming at the Garden” … the first first show I made said decision the afternoon of, after deliberating for a few weeks or months … the first HBO show I got sold fake tickets and then got real tickets at the box office when the lady at the booth felt bad for me, she even helped me pick out where I wanted to sit … but, the shows kind of do hit differently, and they felt significant in their own distinct ways, and (again again) in immediate retrospect (motifs!), in context of her career and her identity or space within the sort of pop music historical narrative consciousness, the HBO filming at the Garden was a whole new echelon of milestone moment … for the Tisch dropout who was too theatrical for pop music, if nothing else … so in their own way the HBO shows were definitely a distinct first time, within a capacity … but this is just rambling and might not make any sense … good question though

  26. Bumping this again, but I agree and feel like there's a bigger chance she'd write music to a specific aesthetic or concept more now than just a genre. ofc she'll likely have projects that fall into one category (most electronic or mostly ballads or mostly dance), but I doubt we'll see her approach things the same way she did for ARTPOP/Joanne/Chromatica. LG8 her post-apocalyptic soundtrack at the discothèque is coming

  27. Is any of this even corroborated if even she says that she's unsure? This jeweler could be a preservationist, collector, historian, etc.? Totally fair to think that people shouldn't be wearing clothing or jewelry that old, but to make overblown claims about how this is all a capitalist, racist, colonial flex feels excessive and not genuine

  29. Once again the "backlash" is against the wrong person. They should waste their energy on Glenn Spiro who actually holds this artifact in his personal collection instead of giving it back to the rightful owners. If they really cared much about this topic, they would learn how many artifacts, art pieces, and so on has been stolen and now owned by rich people, traded by rich people and even the black market. But they don't care, they only care to join the backlash party, add some leftish political statement about Iran because "they care" and "America is bad", checked the box, and moved on with their privileged entitled day... see them next week at the cinema for Spider-man Bran New Day.. and later for Dune 3.

  30. “gracing the ears of an American actress from a country that just bombed Iran.” “Let’s be real, the point of these earrings is not to showcase legitimate ancient artistry, it is to fetishise the past, to be a commodity, 1. Zendaya didn’t bomb Iran. The actions of a country do not speak for every citizen. There are many Americans who do not support this. 2. Tiktokers loooove to speak on what the intent was without any proof whatsoever. What’s crazy is that there are surely some real criticisms to be had for wearing such old, most likely “looted” artifacts, but these extra ridiculous arguments laid on top to try and malign a person’s character just make it seem like a bitter tear down.
