I don't know if you guys have noticed this too, or maybe I'm just going crazy lmao, but this post ended up being a discussion about the quality (or lack thereof) of Chromatica... which once again adds to the narrative I'm trying to highlight in the opening post10 points

I haven't seen it but uhhh idk, people are always doing too much to pit womens' art against each other. don't even worry about it. let haters be haters, and then you'll know who to steer clear of10 points

Hi everyone, I’m here to talk about something that’s been bothering me since the release of Confessions II, and I think this is a good place to share it with my fellow monsters. I listened to the album and thought it was really good—I truly enjoyed it—but my enjoyment started to be overshadowed by the fact that, as the album began to receive positive reviews, a narrative against Gaga began to unfold, driven primarily by Madonna fans and even some monsters (or, at least, I sense a serious lack of enthusiasm when it comes to defending her). Specifically, there have been systematic attacks on Chromatica: a well-established—and largely unfounded—narrative that it’s a “bad” album, something repeated ad nauseam, to the point where I think it ends up making some monsters question their genuine appreciation for the album. At the same time, it’s very harsh—and even concerning—how Madonna’s fans can’t seem to enjoy the album’s relative success without dragging Gaga into it. It’s sickening; they’re out of their minds. It’s as if they’d been hiding under a rock for practically twenty years, lying in wait for Madonna to have anything resembling a hit so they could jump in to “cash in” on years of bitterness and resentment toward Gaga. It really strikes me because I don’t recall this being the situation—not even remotely close—when Mayhem came out. Sorry for the long post, but I’m really wondering how other monsters are experiencing this, because I don’t see anyone else speaking out about it. It seems more like a series of one-sided attacks, coming even from unexpected people (the straw that broke the camel’s back for me was seeing some older men talking about gay/pop culture in my country, who—in their video reaction to Confessions II—literally broke their long-standing silence—which had been conspicuous but respectful—regarding Gaga with negative comments about her). I’m concerned about the power of narratives when it comes to marketing-driven cultural consumption: the way something can be constructed as unambiguously good, positive, or successful, just as the exact opposite narrative can be spun about another phenomenon or product. I'd like to hear your opinions—always respectfully.9 points

Taylor Swift. She has a very limited vocal range and the way she writes her songs became very predictable.9 points

Recency bias hits every single Gaga album, this isn’t out of the ordinary. Chromatica is a great piece in Gaga’s discography, it shows Gaga can do a concise, cohesive album. It’s exactly what Monsters needed at the time, and without it we would never get Mayhem. Give it a few years and it will be praised again And let it be a form of flattery that Madonna stans can’t get Gaga out of their head.9 points

Idk why they're doing this now, but the NYT Podcast decided to randomly upload this long interview with Gaga from 2025 (seemingly recorded in March or very early April since she mentions getting ready for Coachella). It's a good interview, though!7 points

This is a late news but I just found out that Posh! The Prince (born as Francois Ronique Veira) already passed away last Dec 10, 2024. https://www.articobits.com/obituaries/willie-a-watkins-funeral-home-inc/mr-francois-ronique-bozeman-veira-obituary Context for new gen fans: For all the 2010 shows, Posh played Tamborine and was also a character (as himself) in the storyline of The Monster Ball. His role was taken over by Victor Rojas in 2011 with Ian McKenzie puppeteering The Fame Monster (angler fish) during "Paparazzi". Posh fit so well with the MB sotryline. He's in his own lane vibing with the tambourine and all. It sucks that he wasnt able to be part of the HBO special. Share your stories/best memory of him onthis thread to honor a fallen angel.7 points

I mean, those song and album chart stats answer your question. The One That Got Away came out in 2012 Legendary Lovers came out in 2013 Harleys in Hawaii came out in 2019. The only songs of hers that pull good numbers are throwback hits. Her last new release to achieve a BB100 spot was Woman's World at #63 - 2 years ago. Her 3 out of 5 singles since then have only made it to Bubbling Under, 2 didn't even make that. She's not had a Top 10 hit since Chained to the Rhythm in 2017. Her last #1 was in 2013. By definition, she's a throwback/legacy act who's maintained success relies on historical releases.6 points

Orville Peck, fresh off his first full European tour since 2019 just announced his upcoming new album - Mule. https://www.instagram.com/reel/Dax3HfEpqiB/ The announcement comes with a music video for the album intro "Prologue (Eulogy of a Man turned Mule)" featuring Noah Cyrus, Allison Russell and country legend Emmylou Harris. He also used his recent tour to preview a new song from the upcoming album called "Too Little Too Late".5 points

Its a shame. This site would be a lot better if more people actually wanted to talk about the artistry of new releases instead of the numbers of new releases.5 points

He does this all the time. My first interaction with this user was them berating me for liking Harlequin and they used its streaming numbers as proof that it was trash and no one liked it. Just for disagreeing with them about the quality and charts as an indicator of quality, they threw an sh*tfit and said they were gonna spam me with the declining streaming numbers for the album every day (something they never did because they’re, ultimately, chickensh*t). Internet brainrot, I fear. Wishing them well.5 points

Chromatica isn’t very good… But believe me, in a couple years people will get to that same conclusion with Confessions II. When Chromatica came out, people (fans and media) collectively pretended that the album was like the return of Jesus, for whatever invalid reason. That said, as a whole body of work, Confessions II is much better. Chromatica has 911 and Replay, though.5 points

Such an experimental vocalist, too. She really said “key signatures are a signifier of Western hegemony and, in solidarity with much of the colonized world, I will break the spell of Western imperialism and sing off-key.” Avant garde activist and icon.4 points

He was also the inspiration for Posh Life! The song is inspired by his coming out and being made homeless by his parents because they were religious. RIP legend you are sorely missed and are a core memory for us who went to the show.4 points

Like virtually every album by every artist these days. That's what the modern music industry looks like. Fans play albums. GP plays industry currated playlists. None of the people you've argued with on this thread have said this. And in terms of virality - arguably it no longer exists in the way it once did and has less baring on artist/song success. https://hmc.chartmetric.com/why-tiktok-songs-go-viral-faster/4 points

probably because your OP is partly about people dragging Chromatica the general consensus here is that Chromatica is her weakest album, way before CII was even announced one of her albums has to be her weakest4 points

Just curious, why you feel this need to go reading the numbers and have this strong reaction regarding this album?4 points

Nothings happening outside of twitter. No ones moving for Confession II aside from Madonna's hardcore fans which is a lot of course since she's a pop legend. But the album will probably crash without the GP's support. No ones comparing her to gaga anymore, especially with how Gaga reinvented sound and expanded her artistry to acting and actually get recognized.4 points

It's all a cycle of noise. Soccer fans arguing but through a rainbow lens. I find it hilarious and pissing when a post about like "little monsters are soo sexist and nasty!! they're dragging madonna's old hands!! WAKE UP: PEOPLE AGE!" then you click their profile and it's 30 tweets saying transga, manga, nosega, collabga, zionistga, how ugly she is, how irrelevant, etc etc etc. They are evil filthy trolls.4 points

I haven’t seen that but of what I’ve seen on Twitter monsters and Madonna fans are being equally ridiculous and dumb. Twitter stans are craziest ig4 points
