  7. Okay, I was traveling internationally, also at the end of my semester, grading, assignments, everything all at once, and then I watched MAYHEM: REQUIEM, and was just like… wow. Amazing. Such an experience. I was genuinely mesmerized by the visuals. It felt so immersive and addictive, and I really loved the creative direction she took. The reinterpretation of the songs worked so well for me! Honestly, I don’t really have any major complaints. I just genuinely enjoyed the entire experience. I want to congratulate Gaga and everyone involved because you can feel the amount of vision and care behind it. More than anything, I’m glad she seems confident enough again to just do whatever she wants creatively. At some point, it felt like she maybe lost confidence in herself a little or felt pressured to constantly prove something groundbreaking. But it doesn’t always have to be that. Sometimes an artist can just create, experiment, be theatrical, weird, excessive, emotional, and that itself is enough. I also think people don’t always have to love everything, and constructive criticism is completely fair, but sometimes the conversations become unnecessarily mean. I really hope Gaga doesn’t absorb too much of that negativity because I genuinely appreciate the steps she keeps taking creatively. I hope she continues doing exactly that. I’m especially obsessed with the new version of “Die With a Smile.” I was literally on my flight, exhausted and stressed, and whenever I got Wi-Fi, I kept replaying it. The new version of “Disease”, "Abracadabra" also incredibly intoxicating. “Shadow Of A Man” too. They just hit in a very specific way. Aesthetically? Wow. I genuinely want the posters, the visuals, the album imagery everywhere. I think the sound and visual world she created here is incredible. My one disappointment? I wish this were her LG8, not a reinterpretation of MAYHEM. Still works very fine with me!

  9. Re: the contentification of media and shortening attention spans: I saw someone *on this website* saying REQUIEM was boring because it was just Gaga playing instruments and performing without choreo for an hour. I think, to your point, the way art as “content” becomes increasingly divorced from the act of creating, the less audiences feel compelled to identify with the artist and appreciate the output as a necessary product of labor; instead they judge and consume it in the way people judge TikToks or reels: did it immediately capture my attention? Does it automatically make me feel good? Part of my appreciation for artists and performers comes from the work I’ve done as an artist and a performer: being able to see and imagine how much went into what’s being presented creates a level of investment and wonder that can literally never be recreated by something puked up by a computer. Art will always be an act of striving for expression, for catharsis, for joy and, in the absence of a striver, there is no art.

  10. La danse du sabbat translates to "the dance of the Sabbath" in English. In the context of European folklore, art, and literature, this phrase refers to the nocturnal gatherings of witches, where they were traditionally believed to perform frenzied dances and rituals. The phrase is most famously associated with 19th-century French occultism and romantic paintings. It typically depicts a surreal circle dance performed by witches and demons, often around a goat-headed deity or bonfire, symbolizing a rejection of traditional religious norms.

  12. Jack Antonoff posted a journal entry on Instagram on Wednesday in which he slammed those who use AI to make music and art as “godless whores.” “What we do has become an ancient ritual,” wrote the 13-time Grammy winner. “You don’t have to write music, you don’t have to record it and you don’t have to bring out the band and play it. And yet for us, the idea of optimizing what we do is a complete miss of the entire point of what compels us in the first place. We (myself, the band and everyone I know, frankly) have never been looking for this work to become quicker or easier. We were never frustrated by the randomness and magic it takes. We do it for that exact reason, and without the process itself, nothingness.” Antonoff then went on the attack against those looking to invade the world of art and music with AI. “So to everyone who is gassed up about the new ways you can fake making art, by all means drive right off that cliff,” he added. “We’re genuinely happy to see you go. Generations coming will be engaging in the ancient ritual of writing, recording and performing as it comes to us from God. So as we embark on this strange detour where the bad actors will willingly reveal themselves through slop, and the struggling great will be further spread thin to make an honest living doing what they were put on Earth to do, we (myself, the band and frankly everyone I know) remain more dedicated than ever to reveal what comes from within. Writing music, recording and performing it — that’s it. Nothing more embarrassing than considering there is a way to optimize that holy process.” Antonoff is generally considered one of the most prolific pop producers of the 2000s. He had collaborated with such artists as Taylor Swift, Lorde, Lana Del Rey, FKA twigs, Sia, Clairo, St. Vincent and Troye Sivan. He is also the front man and founder of the rock group Bleachers. https://variety.com/2026/music/news/jack-antonoff-ai-music-godless-whores-slop-fake-art-1236748215/

  13. Because the entire point of art is to translate the artist's soul into a medium that can be understood by the viewer's/listener's senses. Drawings and paintings aren't just pictures, music isn't just sound.

  14. Damn, DWAS is dangerously approaching 4 billion streams. I don't think we truly realize what it represents. — 4.000.000.000 — I believe in Gaga cause for now, it seems she always finds a way to defy the gravity of the music landscape, but STATISTICALLY, our chances to witness a new Gaga hit of that stature ever again are practically non existent. What I truly believe however, is that the world will have an epiphany and will truly love her again in the future. Don't get me wrong, she's very popular obviously but I feel that we're not even close to the love and recognition she will recieve later in her life. I wouldn't be surprised at all if in the end, she was remembered as being way bigger than Taylor Swift. Her hits, talent and political work will be remembered and deeply appreciated in comparison to her peers.

  17. Not an untruth was spoken. So much of the beauty we get from music comes from the work. The process. Bypassing that sucks the soul and innate magic out of it all. It stops being art and just becomes a product to consume and discard. The "contentification" of media in general has already led to a lot of the problems we have today: shortening attention spans, stan culture becoming more toxic, politics devolving into team sport, film critique becoming a cesspool of everyone thinking they know better than the artists, etc. Involving AI in music making is only going to make the slope we're slipping down steeper imo

And Apple TV too. {In 2019, Taylor Swift publicly praised Lady Gaga for her ability to completely reinvent herself with each new era: “When people think she’s gonna go one way, she goes the exact opposite, she did that Tony Bennett record and won a Grammy, and then she pivots and goes and wins a Golden Globe for American Horror Story, and then she pivots and does Joanne, and then she pivots and wins an Oscar for 'A Star Is Born.” “That’s so cool, that ability to be so capable in so many different worlds. There’s so much dexterity to her career,” she added.} RUNWAY was performed at the finale of Amici, Italy's biggest talent show. https://x.com/i/status/2056108543057555705 ZOMBIEBOY at NO. 28, RISE ZOMBIEBOY RISE ! 05/10 — 48,464 05/11 — 53,339 (+10%) 05/12 — 56,336 (+5.6%) 05/13 — 64,108 (+13%) 05/14 — 83,052 (+29%) 05/15 — 102,735 (+23%) 05/16 — 113,317 (+10%)

  23. Gaga has a Sports Emmy which she won last year for the 'Hold My Hand' tribute she performed at the Super Bowl which does indeed count for EGOT status. However, she's still yet to win a primetime Emmy award. Either way she's 3/4, all she needs is a Tony now. But one could argue, she already got hers:

  36. It's not just an 'exclusive' in the sense that Target exclusive tracks are, with a specific window of time needing to pass before some kind of exclusivity deal expires. From what I can see, the only reason the event happened at all was because Apple Music paid for it to happen. It's like a Netflix Original TV show. You don't see Stranger Things on Hulu.
