Not trying to interrupt the convo, but that was certainly true for Abra. In the non streaming era, Kendrick's Superbowl performance would not have resulted in him charting a bunch of songs in the top ten (I think it was five songs) during Abra's first full week of charting. Abra would have been a top ten hit and all the ridiculous nonsense about her not having a solo hit would be over.

And she needs to stop being attracted by success tbh. Sequels almost never work, Joker 2 was gonna be a disaster for her from the moment it was announced she would play in it. And then she thought “Yoo-hoo! Let’s do Wednesday 2!”. She basically just did a cameo and a song but they put her name everywhere as if she was a big part of the season, and the season underperformed. Thank God, they did not promote Gaga as something big in TDWP 2. They just let the crickets do their sound and it’s perfect this way.

That whole promo tour is shady TBH. AI narration, weird AI "song" to promote the book, they use a lot of archival footage, her rare appearances are extremely controlled. I love Liza so so much but something seems off with the way things are handled. She's either being stretched thin by her team or she's truly not able to go on with it. In any case, she's an absolute legend but at times it feels like they are trying to make as much money as possible off her back while she's still alive...

I think so. She needs to stay in the mind of people from the cinema world. Her acting career is basically dead now in Hollywood. She was even made fun of live on TV at this year’s Oscars for not being “a real actress” and for being Bradley’s little success in ASIB.

You can’t really compare 2000-2010s peaks with 2020s peaks. Back in the day US artists could easily break through and were even more popular than non-international ones. Nowadays in some European countries it’s so hard for a US pop song to chart high, especially for female artists. For example here in my country, two weeks ago there weren’t ANY non-Hungarian artists in our top 40 singles chart. Every country here has their own star artists and could care less about what the US offers nowadays. Those Abra peaks are actually amazing if you take that into consideration.

Million Reasons is stellar, but Happy Mistake is haunting, a genuine reflection of who she is without her familiar lyrical trappings or motifs, and a superb genre experiment that fits neatly within the genre rather than the pop-genre hybridization that comes with a majority of her work. Happy Mistake it is!
