Absolutely. Celebrities don't need to be out in the streets leading the charge but they have huge platforms that they should use to amplify the right voices. If Gaga hopped on TikTok, X, Insta, or anything else to actively post sources that outline your rights if ICE threatens you or is nearby or while you're protesting that would be incredible. And also so very, very easy to do.

As a Minneapolis resident who has seen every camera angle of this incident plastered across my social media all day, this was absolutely unconscionable murder. The victim never drew his weapon (which he was legally carrying). He was not brandishing it whatsoever within the early moments of the incident (right hand holding cell phone, left hand empty). Even up to 2 literal seconds before he is shot, you can see his hands empty and clasped in front of his head on the ground. I have to say, it really hurts my heart knowing what’s happening in the USA and not seeing Gaga, Beyoncé etc say anything at all. People are being murdered and having their rights taken away and the least they could do is post on social media and/or make a statement. I think a lot of people are looking to the pop girls because a lot of there work is political and they usually are voices to marginalised people (POC, LGBTQ+) just look at BTW and Cowboy Carter. I agree on the issue of normalization, but one of the key ways to avoid normalization has to do with effecting public opinion (ie changing minds), so if Gaga is not culturally in a position to change the minds of people who disagree with her, what is she doing to aid in the preventing the normalization of ICE’s brutality? Also pretty rich (and not totally surprising) that you’ve resorted to personal attacks, but it’s even more ironic given: you’re not from the country where this is happening and ICE raids are happening in the state that I live in and communities I work in. I have friends who are afraid of being apprehended by ICE because of their race. To act like I don’t care about the issue because I question the extent that Gaga’s (or any pop star’s) involvement in this would meaningfully move the needle and because I think pressuring politicians is more important than pressuring pop stars is genuinely ridiculous.

The last thing I’m gonna say is: I think a great example of how little celeb involvement in modern politics generally moves the needle is how, in spite of Swift’s endorsement coming at the peak of her commercial and cultural powers, it didn’t meaningfully move the needle in the 2024 election. I’m not saying, nor would I say, that she *shouldn’t* have done it, but my main argument (despite some fairly bad faith mischaracterizations) has only ever been that, while it’s a gesture that reflects a morally correct position, it doesn’t effect real world outcomes the way online pop stans think it does.
