  8. Hmm... "Disease" FOR ME isn't that good a song, it's not bad either. The video is cheap as f, there's nothing creepy about it. Again, the same problem with "TDD", an ok song with a boring and nothing special video. If you want a real reaction to a real DarkGa, then check out the ABRACADABRA reaction.

  10. Whenever ARTPOP gets brought up this topic comes up a lot, but I think a lot of people don't understand why. The fact is, just like I mentioned recently in the thread about difficult times to be a fan, ARTPOP was a bad time. Like seriously. When Lady Gagas own manager betrayed her then lied to the world about her firing him: (@7:15) When he would then take advantage of the hate train to say that he loved it (and other people who say that she was being selfish and ungrateful by "firing everyone"): https://www.fastcompany.com/3024171/step-up-troy-carter When you had "news organizations" like Pop Trigger bullying her over everything and disgustingly dragging her at every turn (also by Breeland who claimed to be such a victim of Shane Dawson but was literally joining in on bullying a woman in 2019 and making her severely mentally distraught): When people she was feuding with were trying to live near her AND she was being victim blamed over it: When blatant misinformation was spread to slander Lady Gaga like with the false claims about the Born This Way foundations funds: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2014/mar/14/lady-gaga-denies-born-this-way-foundation-funds When shows and movies like Victorious and Let It Shine were blatantly dissing the movement she created to be different and express yourself with fashion and art* (the latter didn't even try to hide it, not that the former did either): When everyone was bodyshaming her: When there was a stigma that you had to be gay to like her, which was rooted in homophobia: https://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/736043-Is-it-gay-for-a-straight-guy-to-go-to-a-gaga-concert When you have people TODAY who still insult the fans and Lady Gaga (@0:00), and even go as far to say that her s3xual assault trauma at the time was just "daddy issues" (@1:09:46) (Most of her other videos seem to be okay, but this one irked me, pop culture reference intended.) When you've had a few years ago respond to leaks like Hallelujah and say that ARTPOP was just a "drug and lip injections infused mess", which is extremely insulting to her trauma and health issues at the time. Some things that (thankfully, though not for evidence purposes) have been lost to time: When you had a "journalist" saying in April 2013 that "Lady Gaga is a Lying Sack of Sh!t" (aside from the censor that was the genuine article title) and claimed that she faked her hip injury to both garner sympathy over the hate she was receiving and to get plastic surgery When you had the "blog" "Lady Gaga: Her Face is an American Horror Story" in 2015 speculating if she was self-harming and was questioning whether or not she was doing it for attention When you had an OGH make an account on a fan forum and not only bodyshame her but state that Lady Gaga flopping caused gay people to die which would "help" to fight the AIDS pandemic (People still publicly viewed her death and fans dying as a good thing as late as 2016) When trolls like Barbarka Volters (a troll primarily active in youtube comments) were being openly homophobic to fans in the mid-2010s ...when all of this happened and still does, people have the right to speak up about ARTPOP. Justice for ARTPOP was never just about the charts, it was about reclaiming something that was viewed as the symbol of ending a movement that made LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, survivors of bullying, survivors of SA, etc. feel confident again. People didn't just hate Lady Gaga to hate her. They hated her as a concept. They wanted to destroy the woman that was trying to make the people who were "othered" feel a sense of purpose that many others wouldn't give them. People have the right to take back what was once a horrible time and try to get victory over those who try to hurt and put others down. ARTPOP was an anti-capitalist and anti-corporate album that was a direct response to much of the hate she was receiving, as well as the problems with the industry. It's not about forcing people to like something; it's about making people realize that Lady Gaga was crucified for fighting against things that harm the industry and marginalized communities before it was trendy to do so. As a privileged white woman she was fighting against late stage capitalism and its effects on corporatism and how that can impact people before the class consciousness of the 2020s. I think that's beautiful, and it is something that we have the right to discuss so we can fight back against the problems of the world and the industry. ---- *The context behind both of these scenes was shading the outfits and calling them "fake" and implying that they were attention seeking. NOTE: This is no shade to anyone who has had issues with ARTPOP being brought up a lot! I think this is an important conversation for us to have so we can better understand Lady Gagas career and the truth about the state her career was in at the time.

  11. Lately, it feels like every move Taylor Swift makes gets picked apart. Don’t get me wrong, she’s the most successful artist in the world, so public attention comes with the territory. But sometimes it feels like people go out of their way to criticize her for things that wouldn’t even make headlines if it were someone else. I’m not necessarily saying she’s beyond criticism every major public figure gets some, and sometimes it’s fair. But there’s a difference between constructive critique and constant nitpicking. She’s been in the spotlight for almost two decades now, and it seems like people either idolize her or can’t stand her, with very little in between. So I’m curious what do you all think? Are we too harsh on Taylor Swift or is this just the price of being the most famous artist on the planet?

  12. Bloody Mary was an amazing "dark" song, whereas TDD is a cute song with a music video that got its potential completely wasted. Fans want quality.

  15. Most of the fandom loved Disease. There was just apprehension from some because they everso naively thought it was the lead single so it might not get positive GP recognition. The Mayhem Ball is probably the darkest thing she's ever created and it's a massive success across the board.

  16. Great video, beautiful visuals. The only good song on the album, smart to make it the lead single.

  20. you're confusing a "corporate oriented mindset" with a woman who's been through a lot of sh*t and just wants to protect her peace she still is fearless, just not stupid about it. rage baiting the audience just to make headlines gets stale fast, effortlessly putting on one of her greatest shows to an audience of 2+ million people is way more admirable and iconic whilst being just as fearless

  21. Some opinions may come across as rude or harsh, but I understand where they originate. I genuinely believe — and I think many others would agree — that Taylor Swift’s unprecedented commercial success feels undeserved. I don’t consider her music to be the worst, but most of it strikes me as dull and uninspiring, and it rarely evokes any emotional response in me. As Gaga fans, especially now during the Mayhem era, it feels unfair to see someone whose work resembles fast-food pop — easily consumable but lacking excitement — achieving numbers several times larger than our idol, whom many of us have supported for years. It’s not pure envy or jealousy; rather, it’s a sense of cultural injustice. We’re trying to reconcile that feeling within ourselves when engaging in pop culture discussions.

  22. She gets her pússy ate by the public 99% of the time, even when she’s churning out mid-quality music, so it’s about time she got a little bit humbled by the masses tbh

  26. Was ARTPOP Gaga fearless? Or was she self medicating with drugs and alcohol to cope with PTSD from SA/her hip injury alongside the Fibro pains and as a result taking way more risks than the average person?

  35. Well she will inevitably break Adele's record with one of her albums so not surprising to me. The key difference is, when Adele released 25, everyone and their mother rushed to buy a personal copy, and maybe one for the car. People gifted the album to eachother at Christmas because they thought the receiver likes Adele just as much as they do. That's an artist that really touched the regular person. Like Céline did before her. Like Whitney with Bodyguard. Taylor releases same bland songs with 55 variants in 120 formats and her fanbase makes sure to get all of them because they think it's their personality. Art and music can be commercial, but Taylor is just the soundtrack to late capitalism. I will continue to be disgruntled, and she'll continue to sell millions every week.

  37. No. I think this criticism is needed now more than ever. Many people, Swifties included, are starting to realise that she's a greedy corporation, who prioritises business, sales and charts over art when she's already a billionaire. Hear me out - this will be her downfall. In a few decades, she will just be remembered for her numbers rather than her music. It's sad. Also, no one can make me believe that Taylor Swift selling 3M copies of an album with 30+ versions and time-limited variants with acoustic versions is the same as an album like The Fame selling those many copies with one version. The worst thing about this album besides its cringe lyrics and lack of originality, is the themes Taylor chose to sing about in this political climate. And, how she chose to manipulate her fans into buying dozens of different variants of the album using scarcity and timers in this economy. It's disgusting.

  41. ARTPOP was the last time she was a fierce pop star. She majorly toned down her image afterwards and never returned. You might say Chromatica this or Mayhem that, but just think: when was the last time Gaga was involved in any sort of genuine controversy? When was the last time she did anything truly polarizing? Well I can tell you, back in the ARTPOP era with the vomit performance. That was the last moment of the fearless Gaga, and she never returned. As she told us in the Mayhem era interviews, she was scared for many years. And now that she grew older she has a much more corporate oriented mindset.

  42. Hey everyone, I wanted to share something personal and see if anyone here has ever felt the same. I was at Gaga’s show in London last night, and from the moment she appeared on stage until the very end, I felt… nothing. I wasn’t happy, sad, or excited, just emotionally frozen, almost like my brain couldn’t process what was happening. It’s strange because I’ve been to several of her tours before and I always felt everything so intensely. But this time was different. The difference is that I’m not that teenage boy anymore. Back then, I was just a kid who found comfort and identity in her lyrics, who learned from her that being ‘different’ isn’t wrong. Now I’m an adult, living on my own, out to my parents, with a life that finally feels mine. I bought the ticket myself, went to the show on my own terms and suddenly, there I was, standing in front of the person who has been shaping me for 18 years. It felt like a collision of past and present, that teenage version of me meeting the grown-up me, face to face, in front of the person who taught me self-love. Maybe that’s why my emotions shut down. It wasn’t just a concert; it was too meaningful to process in real time. Today, it’s all hitting me. I keep crying and right now, it almost feels like it never even happened, like a dream I can’t quite hold on to. Has anyone else ever gone through something similar, feeling numb in a moment that should’ve been overwhelmingly emotional, and only processing it later? Did the feelings eventually come back for you? I’d really love to hear if others have experienced this too.
