Gaga’s marketing strategy up until Mayhem was absolute ****. And even with Mayhem only the first 3-4 months were well executed and planned. Everything post Copacabana has been lukewarm at best from a strategic marketing pov. Taylor is more calculated but I personally have not paid attention to what happens once the album drop. My main issue with all pop stars is that once the album drops they forget about it. No one takes the time to do world building and really land the era besides its lead single.10 points

There’s a lot. Ethel said in an interview that she loved Lana’s Born to Die, it was the first album she bought or something, but eventually she felt that all the allusions to opulence were not representative of the real American Dream, and she wanted to do a darker version that she felt was more true and wanted to make the “next great American record” and then later she deleted all references to her being inspired by Lana on her Wikipedia page. Ethel also asked the mods on lanaboards to shut down her thread so people couldn’t badmouth her. Then apparently Ethel also posted a pic of Lana next to a pic of Peter Griffin, being a fatshaming joke, and when Lana dated Jack, Ethel posted an old pic of her with Jack and then deleted it. So with all this Lana was quite mad at Ethel. So at one point there was a magazine article about Ethel Cain, and there was a pic of Ethel sitting in a Waffle House and the headline of the article was “The Most Famous Person in Waffle House” about how Ethel likes keeping it real basically. So that’s why later, Lana did the stunt of cosplaying as a Waffle House employee, and now has named checked Ethel in a song that goes on to include the lyric “the most famous person in waffle house” which obviously is trying to take that previous headline “honor” from Ethel. Along with “I don’t regret it”. They’re both being weirdly petty tbh.8 points

Lady Gaga becomes the 1st female artist in history to gross over $10 million in a single show in Asia, in addition to grossing $40.8 million in a single Asian stadium, setting another female record. https://x.com/RDTLadyGaga/status/19557758523580256718 points

To play devil’s advocate, BM didn’t become big until many years later. So it’s not like that song always had the potential to be a big hit. It was actively NOT a big hit, but instead just a deep cut fan favorite song. From what we’ve heard so far, Dead Dance is definitely designed to be more of a “hit”7 points

Mariah, Taylor, Adele and Gaga would probably be the only ones with that kind of creative ability. I can't see anyone else managing it really.6 points

ermmmm okay...this list is all sorts of wack. Mariah Carey should easily be in the top 5 - she has 19 number 1 songs, that she produced, wrote and sang. She is so vastly underappreciated it's jarring.6 points

Music aside, based on what I've heard, Ethel seems shady and mean. Glad I only listened to one song of hers and it didn't grab me. I couldn't get into her and now I know why6 points

The song is all I care about. Tbh I was expecting a portion of it to debut in the trailer (a la ASIB), followed by her announcing an official release for tomorrow. But the Joker™ is me 🤡6 points

I do have to say, commentary about 'her team' doesn't make full sense. The Label controls all promotion. They can't force Interscope or UMG to do a thing.6 points

The way she/her team could’ve easily released HBDUWM or VIY as a summer single between Abracadabra and Dead Dance too, her team can be so complacent with singles runs ugh6 points
