ARTPOP really is such an album of legend. So many rumors, leaks, changes, etc all centered on such a bombastic collection of dance pop. it lives rent free in our brains so hard and also in the brains of the GP, oddly enough. It may not be the best album but the lore of it all, and the way it holds such space as a constant discussion point among music lovers…has there ever been an pop album quite so legendary/discussed? Maybe Blackout? But even then…I feel like Blackout isn’t spoken about as regularly as ARTPOP.

There were a lot of plans for ARTPOP coming from the success of her first three albums so of course expectations were quite high. Gaga wanted Aura as lead single, Sex Dreams was supposed to be lead single and duet with Robin Thicke, Manicure had a video planned, Gypsy on the sticker made it obvious it was going to be a single at some point. Venus too before they switched to Do What U Want (the actual better song and most commercial, could’ve been huge). Applause wasn’t even going to make it on the album, Troy picked it as lead, etc.
